All-senior esports super team the Golden Snipers will challenge their rival competitors on Japan's first-ever all-senior team, the Matagi Snipers, at DreamHack Dallas in 2022. As esports continues to grow and its demographic widens, unique compositions of competitors are becoming more common - with some of participants paving the way for future inspiration. All-senior teams are particularly inspiring, given many esports analysts would argue a player's peak occurs decades before senior status - but that hasn't stopped teams like the Golden Snipers from rising to prominence.

The Golden Snipers extended the challenge in a formal statement released today, which marks the 2022 DreamHack stop in Dallas as the location for the duel. Golden Snipers team captain Abbe "DieHardBirdie" Borg stated that the team is both "honored and excited" to extend the challenge to a team in Matagi Snipers that Borg referred to as "highly adept." The Matagi Snipers, based out of Akita, Japan, are their country's first ever officially recognized all-senior esports team.

Both teams are aged 60 years old and above, and the showmatch is, according to Borg, "about much more than winning." While victory would be sweet, Borg its that the Golden Snipers have an even bigger goal in mind: "We are aiming to prove that age does not affect skill level." Current professional esports scenes are mostly comprised of teenagers and young adults, and it would seem that the spectacle of an all-senior esports team is part of the appeal for a Golden Snipers and Matagi Snipers showmatch. The more these kinds of teams and competitions become normalized, the easier it is for other senior gamers to pursue similar dynamic interactions - something that would certainly help widen the pool of potential pro gamers as the years go on.
