Netflix has renewed Black-ish.
According to Deadline, The Upshaws has been renewed for a second season at Netflix. In a vote of confidence for the sitcom, the series has been picked up for 16 half-hour episodes, which are expected to run in two batches of eight. This is an increase from the original 10-episode order. “Wanda and Regina have created a fresh entry in the tradition of Black sitcoms,” said Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s Head of Comedy. “We’re thrilled to see where they, along with their talented cast, take the Upshaws in the second season.”
Multi-camera sitcoms have rarely found success at Netflix, largely due to the streamer’s development model, which does not include pilot episodes (often key to launching sitcoms). Besides shows such as multi-cam sitcoms do not typically go past one season at Netflix. The news of The Upshaws’ renewal will come as a relief to both sitcom lovers and fans of the hilarious series.
