In the new Until Dawn Remake, players must make life-or-death choices as a cast of characters tries to survive until the morning while isolated on a mountain. During each chapter, characters will split off from one another to try to explore and survive, and decisions made early on can impact later portions of the game.

One such choice is made by Mike, who explores the Blackwood Sanatorium while trying to find and save his girlfriend, Jessica. While doing so, he observes a stranger with two wolf companions, and accidentally comes face to face with one. Here is how to make the correct choices to befriend the wolf, which can be useful in later chapters.

Making A Good First Impression

Shortly after entering the Sanatorium in Chapter Five, Mike is initially ambushed by both of the stranger's wolves and has to flee, narrowly closing a door behind him before he's attacked. A bit later, Mike will meet just one wolf who will surprise him after entering the chapel. Unfortunately, the wolf (dubbed "Wolfie" by Mike) will seem unhappy, and will snap and snarl at Mike.

The secret ending of Until Dawn's remake redeems one crucial character and changes their fate, a change that fans of the original will welcome.

You will be given the option to kick Wolfie. However, exercise an important lesson from the game and choose to take no action. Once the timer runs out, Wolfie will not attack, and instead allow you to approach and pet him. Once Mike pets Wolfie, he will now be considered friendly. However, if you accidentally kicked Wolfie in a panic, don't worry. You can make amends.

Salvaging Your Relationship

How To Repair A Friendship

Mike Petting Wolfie in the Until Dawn Remake.

If you kicked Wolfie but want to befriend him instead, you'll need to take the extra step to repair your relationship by bringing him a peace offering. If you don't, Wolfie will bite Mike if he tries to pet him, and won't appear later on in the game.

On the other side of the chapel is a box containing bones, potentially of dubious origin. Regardless, take one of the bones and bring it back to Wolfie. If you offer him a bone, he'll forgive you for kicking him, and he can now be pet without repercussions.

Even if you did not kick Wolfie, you can still bring him a bone, if you want to. He'll gladly take it either way!

Once Wolfie has been pet, regardless of how you reached that stage, he will now appear in a later chapter. Depending on your actions, you'll be able to receive help from Wolfie, or potentially save him in kind.

An Unlikely Helper

Saved By Wolfie, But For A Sacrifice

In Chapter Nine, Mike returns to the Sanatorium, where he will reunite with Wolfie. If Wolfie was kicked and the relationship was not repaired, he will unfortunately flee and not be seen again. If you befriended him, he will come up to Mike to receive pets and follow him through the building.

Major spoilers ahead for the main enemies of Until Dawn!

There are several quick-time events (QTEs) that occur when Mike is fleeing from the Wendigos. If you fail certain events, Wolfie will jump in to protect Mike, which will unfortunately result in Wolfie's death. Be very careful to succeed at these QTEs in order to give Wolfie a chance to survive. If needed, Pr0d1g4L shows a full walkthrough of this part of the Sanatorium in their video.

Careful Quick-Time Event Choices

The first possible Wolfie death occurs while Mike sneaks through the Sanatorium past one of the Wendigos. Like other tense moments, you'll need to hold perfectly still while the Don't Move indicator is on the screen. You'll also need to a QTE to catch a rolling bottle before it falls, so be ready! If you fail to sneak past, Wolfie will jump in to give you time to escape, which results in his death.

The second possible Wolfie death happens when you need to shoot a rolling explosive barrel between two Wendigos. The prompt to roll the barrel is a very quick QTE that is easy to miss. If you don't roll the barrel, or choose not to shoot the barrel, you instead have to choose which Wendigo to shoot. Unfortunately, Wolfie will have to distract the other one to save Mike, and will be killed in the process.

How To Save Wolfie

At the end of the Sanatorium, Mike will have to flee and close another door behind him to block a Wendigo. PS5Trophies's video shows exactly which door this is, as there are several doors that Mike has the option to lock or block during his escape.

Mike is given the option to do nothing, flee, or barricade the door. You must choose to barricade the door to save Wolfie. If you don't, when Mike jumps down a hole to escape, Wolfie will be attacked and killed by the pursuing Wendigo. Otherwise, Mike will say goodbye, and Wolfie will go on his way.

Even though you won't see Wolfie again, he will manage to escape the Sanatorium and survive. After Mike blows up the Sanatorium, you should receive the Until Dawn Remake achievement, "The Skillful Wolf Man."
