Jennifer Lopez is in final talks to star in Unstoppable, a biopic produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. After growing up as childhood pals near Boston, Affleck and Damon's careers have been closely associated since they collaborated on Good Will Hunting. After several more collaborations over the years, Affleck and Damon recently launched their own production company, Artists Equity, which is set to debut its first film, Air. The sports biopic, which is directed by Affleck who also stars alongside Damon, follows a Nike executive's quest to recruit a rookie Michael Jordan for their Air Jordan sneaker line.
Now, Affleck and Damon's production company appears to have found its second project, another sports biopic, and someone closely attached to Affleck may star. According to Deadline, Lopez is in final talks to star in the project currently titled Unstoppable, a biopic about the one-legged wrestler Anthony Robles. At this time, it's unclear who Lopez would play, or who would play Robles.
What To Expect From Unstoppable
Billy Goldenberg – who edited Argo, Live by Night, and Air for Affleck – is attached to Unstoppable for his directorial debut. It's unknown who is writing the script for Unstoppable, though it will follow the true story of Robles and likely be based on the wrestler's autobiography of the same, Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion. Robles' powerful and inspiring life story is ripe for dramatization, as he was born with only one leg and defied all odds to become a three-time all-American wrestler and the 2011 NCAA National Wrestling Champion.
If Lopez's deal for the Affleck-produced biopic is finalized, Unstoppable will be the third collaboration between the couple after Gigli and Jersey Girl. The 2003 romantic crime comedy, which is when Affleck and Lopez first met, was a box office bomb and is now widely considered one of the worst films ever made. Affleck and Lopez's careers (as well as their personal relationship) have come a long way since Gigli, so hopefully their next collaboration, Unstoppable, proves to be more successful.
