Undetected, an indie stealth game heavily inspired by stealth action game Undetected back in January, but now the project has received an exciting reveal trailer that should tantalize any Metal Gear Solid fan.

The first installment in Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear franchise released in 1987, but 1998's Metal Gear Solid made the leap to 3D graphics. The beloved title puts players in the silent shoes of Solid Snake, a genetically-engineered soldier pulled out of retirement to infiltrate Shadow Moses Island. Tasked with destroying Metal Gear Rex, a giant robot capable of launching a nuclear strike, players must avoid enemies and face iconic bosses using cunning, a lineup of useful tools and an arsenal of weapons. While a Metal Gear Solid Unreal Engine 5 remake shows off what the title would look like today, Undetected promises to recapture the stealth game's core values.

An announcement trailer for Undetected, posted to YouTube by publisher Digerati, teases an extremely faithful Metal Gear Solid experience. Players are cast as cyber-augmented agent Tenoch Kaan, who must infiltrate the Chicxulub Perpetual Energy Station to rescue a Mexican revolutionary group. The top-down stealth game looks to perfectly recreate the Metal Gear Solid experience, with Kaan alerting guards if he runs on certain floors and tossing items to distract or incapacitate enemies. Intimidating boss fights and first-person aiming are also glimpsed in the trailer. Billed as a "Stealth Action Revival," Undetected will release on Steam, PlayStation 5 and various other platforms in 2022.

While Undetected will carry on the game's legacy, rumors of an official Metal Gear Solid remake have circulated for some time. A GameCube remake of the game, titled Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, was released in 2004 with enhanced graphics and modernized gameplay. Now rumors suggest that a brand-new version of the game is being developed for modern hardware, though publisher Konami has not responded to these claims. Fans see Bluepoint Games, a PlayStation-owned studio that remade Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls, as a particularly popular choice to craft such a remake.

While Hideo Kojima has left Konami and moved on from the Metal Gear franchise, Antonio Freyr looks to carry on his legacy with Undetected. The indie game appears to perfectly modernize Metal Gear Solid's gameplay, giving players different ways to sneak around using a variety of different tools and techniques. The game is set to release by the end of 2022, so fans of Tactical Espionage Action should get ready for a Stealth Action Revival.
