Thanks to an uncover Henry Avery’s hidden treasure. Along the way, the duo makes plenty of new enemies in the form of mercenary Nadine Ross and corrupt businessman Rafe Adler, both of whom wish to claim Avery’s treasure for themselves.
Nadine eventually abandons Rafe’s quest for the treasure and becomes an unlikely ally for the Drake brothers, even serving as one of the main protagonists of the 2017 spin-off Uncharted: The Lost Legacy - but she still comes into conflict with Nathan and Sam a few times during her debut appearance in Uncharted 4. Likewise, while Rafe initially hires the Drakes to help locate Henry Avery’s buried fortune, he eventually reveals his true nature and becomes Uncharted 4's final boss. Uncharted 4’s story features plenty of moments where Nathan could have killed both these enemies, but the plot requires them to survive these encounters with the perpetually unlucky adventurer during what many consider to be one of the best games in the Uncharted series.
A curious modder and YouTuber by the handle of during Uncharted 4's climax. Nathan cuts Rafe’s villainous monologue short with a quick stream of gunfire, which causes the game to reload to the beginning of the fight. After that, Altered View rewinds the adventure to an earlier chapter and has Nathan betray his temporary ally Vargas by shooting him in the back - though this doesn't stop the corrupt prison warden from continuing his lines about how he wants a cut of the treasure they're hunting.
Though there hasn’t been a new Uncharted game since The Lost Legacy, players have been diving back into the series’ last two treasure-hunting adventures thanks to both the Tom Holland-led live-action Uncharted film and the release of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection - a set of remastered that brought both Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy to the PlayStation 5 back in January. Legacy of Thieves will also bring the high-octane Uncharted games to the PC for the very first time in the series later this year, which will no doubt pave the way for creative mods and gameplay exploits like the ones shown by AlteredView.
Just as Nathan Drake is always uncovering hidden treasure amid the lost ruins of past civilizations, it seems fans like AlteredView are finding fun little tricks and secrets tucked away in the technically brilliant Uncharted games. As lore-breaking as it might be for Nathan to kill characters like Nadine and Rafe, it is certainly interesting to see what happens if players decide to take a more direct solution to some of the conflicts the hero comes across during his final treasure-hunting expedition in Uncharted 4.
