When Every Song On The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Soundtrack Plays

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Soundtrack Features Over 20 Diverse Songs

“Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt: The Umbrella Academy season 4’s opening scene introduces new characters Jean and Gene playing a card game. The season takes place around Christmastime, so it makes sense that Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby” is playing in the background.

“Facing You” by Ernie Rowell: The Umbrella Academy season 4 starts six years after The Umbrella Academy season 3 ended. With the world’s reboot and the Hargreeves siblings losing their powers, they all went in different directions. During that time, Viktor moved to Canada, where he now runs a bar. The country song “Facing You” plays in the bar in Viktor’s first scene.

“The Bad Touch” by Bloodhound Gang: Luther becomes a stripper who goes by “Space Boy,” dancing in an astronaut’s costume. His first dance was to “The Bad Touch” by Bloodhound Gang. The song continues over a montage that reveals what happened to the siblings during the time jump and plays again in The Umbrella Academy season 4, episode 1 end credits.

“Boom Swagger Boom” by The Murder City Devils: The Umbrella Academy season 4, episode 1 takes place at Grace’s birthday party. Grace is the eldest daughter of Lila and Diego, whom Lila was pregnant with during the previous season. When the piñata proves hard to break, Luther takes over. Unfortunately, his aggressiveness leads to Grace’s cake falling on the floor.

“Powered Up” by Cobra Man: At the start of The Umbrella Academy season 4, episode 2, Luther dances to “Powered Up” by Cobra Man. The results of this dance are much different, as Luther unknowingly drank the marigold that brought him his powers, and hairy body, back.

“Baby Shark” by Pinkfong: In The Umbrella Academy season 4, episode 1, Viktor was kidnapped by a man named Sy who said he was looking for his daughter, Jennifer. This leads them on a road trip to New Grumpson, Maine. Unfortunately, the only song Diego’s van will play is “Baby Shark.”

“Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms: Upon arriving in New Grumpson, Ben, fresh out of prison, goes to a diner. There, he meets Jennifer, the diner’s owner. He’s unaware of this, as she wears a nametag that says “Rosie,” and they get off on the wrong foot as “Jingle Bell Rock” plays.

“Winter Wonderland” by Lost Cat: Despite Ben making a bad first impression, Jennifer sits down with him and they bond. The theme of Christmas songs continues with “Winter Wonderland.”

“Carol of the Bells” by Bel Canto Choir: At the end of The Umbrella Academy season 4, episode 2, Jean and Gene’s car crashes into the van holding the Hargreeve siblings, Lila, and Jennifer. “Carol of the Bells” by Bel Canto Choir adds to the scene’s dramaticism as they kidnap Jennifer while Ben helplessly watches.

“Money (That's What I Want)” by Barrett Strong: Klaus had been sober for years during the time between The Umbrella Academy seasons 1 and 2. After regaining his powers against his will, Klaus started to relapse, but he needed money to buy drugs. “Money (That’s What I Want)” by Barrett Strong was a fitting song for the scene in which Klaus steals from Allison.

“Jump into the Fire” by Harry Nilsson: After leaving Allison’s place where he’d been staying, Klaus goes to the alley he used to hang out in. “Jump into the Fire” by Harry Nilsson plays while Klaus floats, testing out his new powers.

“Ahead by a Century” by The Tragically Hip: The Umbrella Academy season 4 featured a subway that let riders travel through alternate timelines. The Umbrella Academy season 4 develops over seven years together on the subway. Time es in a montage to “Ahead by a Century” by The Tragically Hip.

“Witch Stomp” by Guantanamo Baywatch: After an unfortunate run-in with Quinn, an old acquaintance who he owes money to, Klaus gets buried alive in a pet cemetery. The groovy “Witch Stomp” by Guantanamo Baywatch plays as he screams for help and tries to get the secret stash in his boots.

“My Heart Cries Out” by Jerry Naill: Viktor reluctantly goes on a road trip with this universe’s version of Reginald Hargreeves to find Ben. After Viktor saves Reginald’s life, they fight over what song to play on the radio. While Reginald wants to listen to opera, Viktor prefers “My Heart Cries Out” by Jerry Naill. After going back and forth, Viktor uses his powers to render the car’s radio useless, ending their petty fight.

“Secret Agent Man (Live at Whiskey A Go Go, 1996 version)” by Johnny Rivers: Luther and Diego spend The Umbrella Academy season 4, episode 5 in the CIA office where Five works. While Luther is skeptical, Diego believes they’re part of a covert mission and part of the best of the best. When it’s revealed that they’re actually Keepers, Diego and Luther have an epic fight scene against them with “Secret Agent Man” by Johnny Rivers playing over the scene making it even cooler.

“Maps of the Problematique” by Muse: The Umbrella Academy series finale starts with the song “Maps of the Problematique” by Muse. It’s the song Jean and Gene use to call all the Keepers together for the Cleanse. The group is much larger than the Hargreeves had initially assumed, with masses of people grabbing weapons, ready to fight to return to the timeline they believe they belong in. “Maps of the Problematique” makes the scene powerful and chilling.

“Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: When Lila and Five return from their six years of traveling timelines, it’s only been a few hours for everyone else. Most of the Hargreeves family reunite at Diego and Lila’s house, where Claire and Grace watch “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” from the ballet The Nutcracker.

“Dead to the World” by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds: In The Umbrella Academy season 4 finale, marigold-infused Ben and durango-fueled Jennifer come together to create a large unbeatable monster that triggers The Cleanse. After failing to stop it, Five hops back onto the subway to try and find some answers. “Dead to the World” by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds plays as a somber Five re his time with Lila.

The bold choice to turn Five and Lila’s relationship in The Umbrella Academy season 4 wasn’t appreciated by all viewers.

“Ain’t That a Shame” by Fats Domino: When Five steps off the subway, he ends up in a deli occupied only by alternate versions of himself. He talks with one version of himself who tells him the Hargreeves shattered the original timeline. Thus, they need to erase themselves completely to return the universe to the way it was always meant to be.

“I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tommy James and the Shondells: When the Hargreeves siblings sacrifice themselves, they send their family onto the subway to find safety in another universe. A cover of Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” played over The Umbrella Academy’s final scene showing the surviving family happy together, calling back to the pilot's most famous scene. It also features cameos from past characters, like The Handler, played by Kate Walsh. This made The Umbrella Academy’s ending bittersweet, as it took the Hargreeves dying and erasing themselves from history for their loved ones to survive free of the constant threat of the world ending.
