Wasp becoming a spy for the Maker is a huge twist on classic Avengers lore, turning one of the team’s founding heroes into the ultimate traitor; Janet Van Dyne’s Wasp was an integral part of the very first roster, with a spot on the team in the very first issue, 1963’s Avengers #1, written by Stan Lee, with art by Jack Kirby. In Marvels main continuity, she even came up with the team name and proved to be a natural leader. However, in this warped Marvel Universe, Janet’s role in The Ultimates is far more sinister than anyone imagined.

Did Marvel Just Reveal How the Ultimate Universe Will End? The Clues Are There
The new Ultimate Universe has just kicked off, but Marvel Comics may have already spoiled how it is going to come to end. Here's everything we know!
Janet and her husband ed the Ultimates team back in the series’ first issue, and she has been an equally vital part of the team’s adventures until this point. As it’s noted in Ultimates #12, she even died alongside her teammates in the timeline where they were all killed by the Hulk. However, the reveal that Janet has been sneaking around and secretly working with Nick Fury and the Maker’s Council might change everything readers thought they knew about this version of the character so far, and could set the stage for the team’s reboot with Ultimates 3.0.
The Ultimates’ Latest Twist Redefines Classic Marvel Hero Wasp's Role On The Team
But There Could Still Be More To The Story
Since the Wasp’s powers have already proven to be deadly in this universe, Janet becoming an evil spy could turn her into one of Earth-6160’s worst villains. However, Wasp’s scene with Nick Fury could be a major misdirection, meant to make readers think she’s a mole on the Ultimates when she’s actually working for the team. Since Wasp’s supposedly traitorous scene comes just after the team decides to do things in a new way, perhaps Wasp's defecting is all an elaborate scheme for the Ultimates to learn the Maker’s Council’s secrets, and Janet hasn’t really gone to the side of evil.
In the twisted Ultimate Universe, even Marvel’s greatest Avengers heroes, like the Wasp, aren’t safe from becoming some of Earth-6160’s deadliest threats and villains.
Even though she’s one of the founding of the team, Wasp has always been a sort of underrated Avenger, and this next move could make her either an even bigger part of the Ultimates lineup or their worst enemy. If she really began working with Nick Fury and the evil of the Maker’s Council in a devastating turn, the Ultimates team that’s been building up over a dozen issues could be left in shambles. In the twisted Ultimate Universe, even Marvel’s greatest Avengers heroes, like the Wasp, aren’t safe from becoming deadly villains.
