Once the sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - tentatively called Breath of the Wild 2 - comes out, characters from another Zelda game, Twilight Princess, could make an appearance. Which ones, if any, can't be said for certain since there's still so much of the game still shrouded in mystery, however. Breath of the Wild 2 is set to release some time in 2023, so it will be some time before players see whether any characters will return.
In Zelda: Twilight Princess, Link is a simple villager who goes to rescue the children of his village. He soon encounters the Twilight, a power that strips away the light from Hyrule, and is transformed into a wolf. Link then sets off on a journey across a Hyrule swallowed up by Twilight to rescue the Light Spirits and gather the Fused Shadows with the help of Twilight Princess' fan-favorite sidekick Midna. Along the way, the two rescue the lost children and aid the various races of Hyrule. Eventually, they confront Zant, one of the main antagonists, as well as his evil patron, Ganondorf. Once they're both defeated, Midna goes home to the Twilight Realm before destroying the gateway between it and Hyrule, the Mirror of Twilight.
In Breath of the Wild, there are cameos from Twilight Princess and other past Zelda games in the form of special armor in the DLC. These include Midna's helmet and the infamous Majora's Mask. They may be a small detail, but they're at least partial proof that the events and characters of previous games are present in BOTW's universe. Where exactly BOTW fits into Legend of Zelda's split timelines is unclear, but it's widely regarded to be at the very end of one of them or a united timeline, so almost any character from past games could theoretically appear in BOTW 2.
Midna Could Appear In BOTW 2
Midna is Link's sidekick in Twilight Princess. She frees Link from his imprisonment at the start of the game and accompanies him throughout. At first, she has her own agenda and seems to care little for Link, treating him like a servant and refusing to tell him why she sought the Fused Shadows that they collect. After Zelda sacrifices herself to save Midna's life, however, she has a change of heart. It's eventually revealed that she is the leader of the Twilight Realm, and was deposed and cursed by Zant prior to the events of the game. Midna may be a rather annoying Zelda sidekick at the beginning of Twilight Princess, but she and Link grow close over time, and both are sad to separate by the end of the game.
If Midna were to appear in BOTW 2, she may not reprise her role as Link's companion. Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess are vastly different games, and it seems odd for her to accompany Link as she once did since he has no sidekick in the first BOTW and there's no evidence that he will have one in the second. In addition, light is harmful to Midna, since she's a member of the Twili race. She needs to stay in Link's shadow whenever she's in the world of light in Twilight Princess, so it doesn't seem like she would follow him in a Hyrule not taken over by the Twilight. It's more likely she would be a minor character if she returns in BOTW 2, and be involved with a side quest or a minor questline instead of being a main character again. Alternatively, she could also appear in DLC just like her helmet did in the first BOTW.
Zant Could Be In Breath Of The Wild 2
Zant is the primary antagonist for most of Twilight Princess. He makes a deal with Ganondorf in exchange for his power, and transforms the Twili people into Shadow Beasts in order to conquer Hyrule. Zant, unlike most Twili, resents that he could not leave the Twilight Realm, and he also holds a deep hatred for Midna since she was chosen as its leader above him by its royal family. He presents himself as composed and calculating for most of the game, but during his last meeting with Link and Midna, he reveals himself to be completely unstable, and acts extremely erratically during his final boss fight. It's possible that Zant's pact with Zelda's iconic antagonist Ganondorf caused him to behave differently in Twilight Princess, but he attributes this to being the only Twili to have emotions, which were suppressed by the Twilight Realm royal family, instead.
If Zant does appear in BOTW 2, he could become an antagonist again. How big of a villain he would be is hard to predict, but it can be inferred based on what's been revealed so far. The first trailer for Breath of the Wild 2, as seen on Zant does return as a villain in BOTW 2, he could also be the antagonist of his own questline or DLC, like Midna.
King Bulblin Could Be An Enemy In BOTW 2
King Bulblin is a minor antagonist in Twilight Princess. He's the one who first kidnaps the children from Kakariko Village and indirectly sets up the rest of the plot. Link battles him many times throughout the game, both on horseback - with King Bulblin riding Lord Bullbo - and on foot. He's a loyal servant of Zant, and his Bulblin minions frequently act as minor enemies on Link's quest. Although he may seem evil, during his last encounter with Link and Midna, he gives them a Small Key and s their side, stating that he was simply following whoever was strongest as it's all he's ever known.
King Bulblin is a character that Zelda BOTW 2 doesn't need, but could still utilize well. It may be best if he or generic copies of him act as a strong but common enemy without bearing on the story, like a Lynel or Hinox. He could become a boss like he was in Twilight Princess, but should only have one fight if so and not face against Link multiple times. There's also potential for BOTW 2 to expand his character, as his last appearance in Twilight Princess showed that he was more than a simple minion. If Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 decides to use some Twilight Princess characters, King Bulblin may seem like an odd choice, but he could also make for a great questline that explores his background.
