In the latest entry of our ongoing series, Screen Rant's Ryan George reveals what (probably) happened in the Twilight. Based on the enormously popular series of supernatural romance novels by Stephenie Meyer, Twilight starred Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as star-crossed lovers Bella Swan and Edward Cullen: a teenage girl, and a very old man.

The big selling point of Twilight wasn't so much its May-December romance as the fact that Edward is a vampire, who still looks like a teenage boy, sparkles in direct sunlight, and in general avoids the more icky bits of vampire lore - like turning into a bat and sleeping in a coffin. Between his tortured past, his struggles with bloodlust, and his desperate attempts to keep Bella away from him for her own safety, Edward is also brimming with the kind of brooding bad boy angst that captivated everyone from high school girls to middle-aged moms. That translated into over 100 million copies of the books sold - which inevitably meant a movie deal.

Catherine Hardwicke directed the first entry in what would later be branded The Twilight Saga, which came to consist of five movies in total (the searing drama of Twilight: Breaking Dawn could not be contained in one movie alone). As we celebrate fifteen years since the first of Meyer's books was unleashed upon the world, here's an approximate recreation of what happened in the pitch meeting for Twilight.

Twilight might have had to withstand a lot of bad reviews and mockery, but the franchise arguably had the last laugh. The first movie alone grossed almost $400 million worldwide and firmly launched the careers of its young stars. Stewart went on to appear in critically-acclaimed dramas like Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper, and Pattinson has been tapped as the The Batman.

As for the Twilight franchise itself, things have been quiet since the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 in 2012 (unless you count the BDSM fanfiction that took on a life of its own as the occasional rumors of a new Twilight movie being in the works, it seems like the phenomenon has been laid to rest... for now. It's probably a good idea to keep the stakes and garlic at hand just in case, though.
