The recent Warner Brothers Discovery merger was supposed to be a great thing for both companies, but it seems to be a nightmare for audiences since the new company is canceling fan-favorite shows (and movies like Batgirl) left and right. While several shows canceled in 2022 are a result of the merger, the truth is that several TV shows faced the chopping block unrelated to the event.
It seems like no TV show is safe in the year 2022 since cancelations have affected everything from animated comedies to hour-long sci-fi shows. Aside from getting canceled, the one thing all these shows have in common is a loyal fan base who are determined to get their shows back on the air.
Duncanville (2020 - 2022)
Premiering in 2020, Duncanville is an animated family show centered around Duncan, the family's teenage son. The series ran for three seasons before getting canceled -- making it a short run compared to some of Fox's animated shows.
The cancelation hit fans hard, and they quickly created a petition to save the show. Reddit yungzebo went as far as to say that the show could have been on par with Bob's Burgers had it received more time to let the characters grow.
First Kill (2022)
Netflix ventured into the supernatural teen drama genre with the release of First Kill in June 2022. The series centered on Juliette, a young vampire who plans to kill her crush, who happens to be a monster hunter, further complicating things.
The series was praised by fans for its positive female and LGBTQ+ storylines, and they were devastated when Netflix canceled it. Reddit Netflix show canceled after one season.
Gentleman Jack (2019 - 2022)
Based on a collection of diaries written by the real-life Anne Lister, Gentleman Jack is a historical drama that follows Anne Lister as she tries to save her ancestral home while also falling in love with another woman.
Despite having an abundance of source material, HBO canceled the show shortly after the much-awaited second season. Reddit 1PantSuit2Nation took to the website to voice their anger over the cancelation, and many s responded with the hope that BBC would continue to create the show without HBOs help.
Gentefied (2020 - 2022)
Despite being strikingly similar to Hulu's hit, The Bear, Netflix's Gentefied never got the attention it deserved. Set in Los Angeles, the show centered on three Mexican-American cousins who are trying to chase their own dreams while helping their grandfather keep his beloved taco shop afloat in a changing community.
When Reddit JamesonWilde posted about the cancelation, several s were quick to flood the comments with their disappointment that the show was canceled, including JamesonWilde, who wanted another season to see certain stories resolved.
Gordita Chronicles (2022)
Released on HBO Max in June 2022, Gordita Chronicles is one of the unfortunate shows affected by the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. Set in 1980s Miami, the comedy series centers on pre-adolescent Cucu Castelli and her family who have just immigrated to the US from Puerto Rico.
Reddit theunworthyone expressed their anger, citing that Gordita Chronicles had a "Cute and funny season telling a kind of story that is not often told in American media." This fact alone is why so many fans hoped the show would get a second season.
Made For Love (2021 - 2022)
best original series on HBO Max, but it was one of the streamer's more original ideas. The black comedy sci-fi series centers on Hazel, a young woman on the run after leaving her husband, who put a tracking device in her brain.
Like most sci-fi series, the second season ended on major cliffhangers that now won't ever get resolved. That's one of the biggest reasons Reddit s like spoondroptop want the show to come back.
Night Sky (2022)
Night Sky is an Amazon Prime original that starred the award-winning actors Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons in the lead roles. The sci-fi series centered on a married couple who happen across a portal in their backyard that transports them to a deserted planet.
Reddit GloriousAqua was the first to post the news to the Reddit sub and fans flocked to the comments to demand the show be picked up for another season. Many s mention needing answers to what happened to Bryon, which would have been explored in season 2.
The Time Traveler's Wife
Based on the 2003 novel of the same name, The Time Traveler's Wife is a sci-fi romance centered around Clare and Henry, a married couple whose marriage was made difficult due to Henry's ability to travel through time.
The series didn't get great reviews from critics, but it did find a devoted fan base in its short one-season run. Desperate to see these characters onscreen again, Reddit s like Voice_of_Season have organized letter writing and social media campaigns to bring attention to the show and save it.
The Wilds
Yellowjackets might be getting all the credit for being a great show about teen girl plane crash survivors, but The Wilds did it first. The Amazon series centers on a group of girls from different backgrounds who think they're headed to a retreat when their plane crashes, leaving them stranded on the island. However, it's revealed that the entire thing is a social experiment, unbeknownst to the girls.
Reddit show is brought back after being canceled.
Tom Swift
Based on the book series of the same name, The CW's Tom Swift is also a spin-off to the hit mystery drama series Nancy Drew that also airs on the channel. The series revolves around Tom, a brilliant inventor, who finds himself investigating his father's disappearance and fighting back against those that don't want the truth to be known.
Reddit lasfnyc broke the cancelation news on Reddit and wrote on to say they were "disappointed" in the cancelation while Redditor StarChild413 has shared a petition to renew the show. Unfortunately, Tom Swift doesn't have a massive fandom behind it which means its fate might be sealed.
