Reddit [deleted] asked other s to list the characters they found to be the most annoying characters of all time and the results were pretty controversial but which one is the most irritating and why? Here are just 10 TV shows that contain an annoying character.

New Girl (Jess)

Whilst many viewers find Jess an endearing and quirky character, others can't stand her chaotic energy with D_Purpurosa claiming that "she is so grating and annoying". Jess is known for being over the top which many viewers find irritating and dramatic rather than just a unique personality trait.

While many fans state that Jess's eccentric escapades are what make the show so interesting, some refuse to believe that Jess's character needs to exaggerate it as much as she does. She may be a controversial character but ultimately Jess represents a fundamentally flawed human who is relatable.

Phil (The Last Man On Earth)

The Last Man On Earth has the best quotes about deadly viruses, resulting in the show rearing its head in the wake of the pandemic due to the somewhat relatable comedic relief it offers fans. The show relies heavily on comedy but some of the jokes made by Phil had some fans questioning whether they actually liked his character.

He isn't a particularly reliable person due to his inability to stop lying alongside his questionable decision making. Hanifsefu explained how they "hated him from the second he was introduced. He wanted conflict for the sake of conflict which is always the worst thing to watch on TV". His character continues to be controversial but just like marmite some fans love him whilst others find him seriously annoying.

 Sex In The City (Carrie)

In the 90s Sex In The City was one of the most refreshing shows on TV, with its representation of women and their sex lives, but many fans weren't sold on the main character: Carrie. Reddit  yosemitetrailblazer shared that they had never "seen someone who was so insecure, jealous, selfish, financially irresponsible, and required constant validation from her friends/lovers".

Carrie comes across as a self-assured woman but underneath she seeks a lot of validation from others which is particularly obvious in the first season when her tumultuous relationship with Big begins. However, other fans believe that Cassie represents the self-doubt that comes when embarking on new ventures, whether that be within one's career or love life.

Orange Is The New Black (Piper)

Piper lacks the endearing charm of her TV counterparts Morello and Taystee with fans like PineappleExprezz explaining that "as terrible as Pornstache is, [they] find Piper to be far more annoying". Piper reeks of entitlement, evident from the moment she enters the prison system with her nervous disposition.

Her entitlement is what leads to her being a thoroughly unlikable character when she adopts an attitude that suggests she thinks she is above the other women she is imprisoned with. Piper acts as though she had no role in her criminal past rather than taking ability. In addition to this, she takes on a white savior role which only increases fans' hatred for her, showcasing how talented Taylor Schilling truly is.

Dora (Dora The Explorer)

Dora the Explorer and Boots

Dora The Explorer is one of the longest-running kids' shows but this lengthy childhood show is not such a favorite with parents or older viewers. Many children fell in love with Dora from the moment she hit screens due to her adventurous outings and ability to include fans within the show. However, for adults and ex-fans, Dora has become an annoying TV staple whose voice haunts the lives of many parents due to her shrill tone and lack of volume control.

Reddit poopellar was just one viewer who shared that they had "lost sleep from hearing Doras voice play over and over in [their] head" with many agreeing. Whilst Dora may be one child with a seriously loud voice it's safe to say that she remains a hit with younger viewers and provides an adventure that many children dream of through the TV screen.

Greys Anatomy (Meredith)

Meredith is arguably the most well-known character from Grey's Anatomy and her relationship with Derek is one that continues to dominate Reddit threads and fan pages. Like all characters, Meredith has her flaws and many fans believe that she is one of the most selfish characters within the show but producers gave viewers an insight into why.

Reddit  amaluna labeled Meredith as being "so indulgently gloomy it's embarrassing". Whilst her character is known to take a pessimistic view of life it's safe to say that she has undergone a variety of traumatic events which may be the underlying cause of her dark humor. Her humor and attitude to life may annoy some fans but others find it somewhat endearing in its representation of humor as a coping mechanism.

Ray (Everybody Loves Raymond)

Everybody Loves Raymond contains some major flaws that many fans choose to ignore but one flaw for some fans is actually Ray. His character constantly navigates life alongside his overbearing parents and somewhat irritating wife which is what makes the show such a hilarious watch. However, for some viewers including grendus, Ray "was a spineless momma's boy" that became irritating after a couple of episodes.

His character suddenly goes from standing up for himself to being at his mother's beck and call which is only heightened in his relationship with his wife. Ray became increasingly annoying to fans as many felt they wanted to see him rise against the exhausting strain his character is permanently under by his family but unfortunately he never did.

 Caillou (Caillou)

For many adults, Caillou was a significant character within their childhood but it doesn't mean he was a particularly likable one. In recent years, Caillou has become one of the most annoying characters for both children and adults with many parents blaming the protagonist for their Child's behavior.

Se7enUnicorns was quick to call out the character's behavior stating that he "pulls the same whining stompy foot garbage in every episode" which is then mirrored by the show's viewers. Calliou is a seriously spoilt child whose temper tantrums give adult viewers a headache and younger viewers a bad role model which is why he's such an annoying protagonist.

Ted (How I Met Your Mother)

For many viewers one of the worst things Ted ever did in How I Met Your Mother is become a character that fans empathised with before realising his inability to hold himself able for his own behaviour. His character likes to become the victim which is why many fans turned their backs on him as a lot of the situations he found himself in were due to his own doing.

Friends due to them both being "whiny characters who cause most of their own problems in life" which is a common opinion held about Ted. If he had learnt to own up to his actions then his character may have won over fans of the show.

The Big Bang Theory (Sheldon)

Sheldon may have won the top spot as Reddit s most annoying TV character but several fans actually found his quirky ways somewhat endearing. His character was particularly intelligent to the point that he knew it which led to his dry sense of humor being labeled by some fans as arrogance.

His character may have lacked social skills but he also lacked a caring approach to his friends which led to him continuously invalidating their emotions. Reddit  TornadoApe went as far as saying that "no one in the real world would put up with his s***" which is why his character continues to be unlikeable, annoying, and unsympathetic for many fans.
