The official trailer for Disney's latest TRON movie will finally be released on October 10, 2025.

Disney has finally dropped the official trailer for TRON: Ares, revealing the new reality for the universe. Instead of taking place in another world, the new movie will see the virtual world collide with a live-action landscape, after TRON: Legacy introduced the idea to the franchise. Some of the footage was previously seen at CinemaCon 2025, but it was not released to the public until now. Check it out below:

What This Trailer Means For TRON: Ares

The Collision Between Worlds Will Be Devastating

Because they focus on a real-world star, the TRON movies have previously focused on virtual reality with some limited attention spent on the real world. The threequel is looking to change that dynamic with its Grid-born protagonist, as the TRON: Ares trailer indicates that virtual cities and landscapes will no longer be the main setting of this universe. Leto's Ares will be a rogue AI with the ability to shift planes to the real world, and he evidently has the power to devastate cities, as the footage revealed that a virtual bike could even split police cars in half.

Tron: Why The '80s Sci-Fi Movie Was So Expensive

Tron is considered one of the most important predecessors to the successful wave of VFX blockbusters of today, and it paid the full price for it.

Previous movies have considered the idea of AI traveling to the real world, as Quorra (Olivia Wilde) managed to escape the virtual landscape in TRON: Legacy. While Quorra is not an especially malevolent entity, the trailer indicates that several programs have villainous intentions, as an apparent army seeks to invade reality. Additionally, the red coloring is a sign that the Master Control Program from the first movie could be making its return, though that remains to be seen. The very presence of AI outside the virtual world indicates that the stakes of TRON: Ares have been significantly raised.

After Years Of Waiting, TRON 3 Appears Very Different

Three Grid ships flying toward the portal to the real world in Tron: Ares

The threequel has been controversial for years, largely because of the absence of Daft Punk, the casting of Jared Leto, and limited connections to previous TRON movies. Still, this trailer appears to be a sign that TRON: Ares will be tying into Legacy, as it is building on the themes of Quorra's ascension and the importance of the real world. The production quality also seems incredible, including the stunning visual effects. It remains to be seen if this movie will live up to its predecessors, but this trailer is a welcome sign of quality.
