The previous issue saw the Autobot leader replace his right arm with that of his greatest enemy. Now, Transformers #5 shows Prime putting Megatron’s fusion cannon to use, and the results are jaw-dropping.
Coming from the creative team of Daniel Warren Johnson, Mike Spicer and Rus Wooten, Transformers #5 sees the Autobots finally take the initiative and develop a new power source to revive their comatose friends.
With the help of Sparkplug Witwicky, Ratchet and Wheeljack are able to utilize the city dam to generate enough power to bring back the other Autobots. It isn’t long before they find themselves under attack from the Decepticons, and Optimus Prime and the others are forced to defend their newfound power source.
Optimus Prime Is Literally Replacing His Own Parts With Megatron's
Fans get to see Prime use his new arm in the subsequent battle, and the Autobot leader makes good use of Megatron’s fusion cannon. a major upgrade for Optimus Prime, making this possibly the most powerful version of the already formidable Autobot warrior.
While it’s a major power upgrade, it could also wind up having unexpected side effects for Optimus Prime. The opening scene of the issue sees Prime reflecting with fellow war veteran Sparkplug, where the Autobot leader confesses that he’s beginning to see the very things he’s fighting against every time he looks in the mirror. It’s a nice bit of visual storytelling on behalf of the creators, as Prime is literally taking on aspects of his greatest foe. Considering that the Decepticon leader is currently the prisoner of Cobra Commander, one can’t help but wonder what will happen when Megatron finally breaks free.
Optimus Prime Annihilates Reflector With Megatron’s Fusion Cannon
It’s a good thing that Optimus Prime gets this massive upgrade, as the fight with the Decepticons continues to heat up. The Autobots manage to successfully fight off Starscream and the others, which leads to Prime feeling confident in his victory. Wanting to take the fight straight to the Decepticons, Prime leads the Autobots on a desperate last stand to retake the Ark, but winds up falling prey to Starscream’s trap: the Constructicons’ combined form, Devastator. Whether or not Optimus Prime’s upgrade by way of Megatron winds up being enough to survive the fight remains to be seen, so Transformers will have to keep reading to find out.
