Skybound just launched its Transformers Kickstarter campaign, and the campaign has already reached over $2.1 million dollars. This new success follows the massive success of last year’s G.I. Joe Kickstarter, which currently stands as the most-funded comics project on the platform with a final total of a whopping $3.7 million.
Skybound announced the news via record-breaking G.I. Joe campaign.
The campaign collects all the classic Marvel Comics and Marvel UK Transformers material across four hardcover volumes into what Skybound describes as the “ultimate reading experience,” including stories by iconic creators like Simon Furman, Geoff Senior, Andrew Wildman, and more.
Transformers Kickstarter Set Is Already on a Course to Become the Highest-Funded Comic in Kickstarter History
Fully Funded in Only Two Minutes
By this point, it’s not hard to see the Transformers Compendium set eventually overtaking last year’s G.I. Joe campaign and officially becoming the most-funded comics project in Kickstarter history. It continues Skybound’s historic revamping of both G.I. Joe and Transformers in the comic marketplace, with the current Energon Universe offerings of both Hasbro properties standing as the highest-selling comic books in both franchises’ recent history. By re-releasing all the classic material from the original Marvel Comics run, Skybound is able to pay homage to what came before while also charting a bold, new future.
Skybound also intends to release the Transformers Compendiums individually to mass-market retail, with the first volume set to be released on June 10th, 2025.
The four-volume compendium sets will include Transformers #1-80, Transformers: The Movie #1-3 and Transformers: G2 #1-12 from Marvel Comics, as well as all original Transformers material from the Marvel UK run. The campaign also has a handsome slipcover set for all four volumes, featuring brand-new artwork from Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer and available in both “Autobot” and “Decepticon” themes. Several other add-ons include “Tech Spec Cards” that reveal the details of classic Transformers via an included red lenticular “decoder” car, featuring new artwork from luminaries like Senior, Wildman, and Jorge Corona.
New Transformers Compendium Set Promises to Be the "Ultimate Reading Experience"
Perfect for Fans of Any Transformers Era
With plenty of stretch goals to be unlocked, Skybound has given Transformers fans the opportunity to keep the pledges rolling in (or is that rolling out?). It will be nice for fans to have all that classic material collected together in a fancy set that will likely be the highlight of any Transformers fan’s bookshelf. The new Transformers Compendium Set seems likely to break a Kickstarter record; the only question now is how high the campaign will get before it closes on May 7th, 2025.
