Director Josh Cooley's most recent credit was his feature directorial debut, The Incredibles. All told he's had a hand in eight Pixar feature films, as well as two of the studio's shorts. This news means he'll be working with Paramount for the very first time.

The choice of Cooley as director makes a lot of sense, considering he's already worked on one major franchise in Toy Story. It's also possible the studios behind the movie are looking to replicate the critical success of Bumblebee, whose director had also only helmed one feature before. The Transformers franchise has benefited from Bay's experience, but this news shows the series is ready for a new vision.
