To confront a powerful but unknown threat of apocalyptic proportions, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles must tap back into the guidance of their long-lost father Master Splinter, as their deceased father and mentor teaches one final lesson that will dictate the path of their future.

For much of their lives, especially those all-important formative years, the one constant for the Turtles save the world and resurrect Shredder. In the face of a huge new threat, if there was ever a time the Turtles needed Splinter's advice and guiding counsel, it is now.

In IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #132 by Sophie Campbell, Pablo Tunica, and Ronda Pattison, the Turtle's training is taking them on a dark path they may not recover from, as they train under Shredder to replace their iconic weapons with new ninja powers that border on magic. In a synopsis and cover shared by League of Comic Geeks, it seems the Turtles will consult Splinter one final time on the best path forward, even if it means disturbing his eternal rest.

As the TMNT continue to train under the tutelage of the Shredder in Northampton, the techniques they are learning take a bizarrely arcane turn. Will Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo, and Jennika learn how to master and control the dark ninja arts... or will they be consumed by them? One thing's for certain: if they are to have any chance at success, they will need to seek out a light from the past to help guide their way.

It seems the Turtles' new Kuji-Kiri abilities may soon extend to communing with the dead, allowing Splinter to have the final word on their training under Shredder. The promised Armageddon Game will clearly be a world-shaking threat that will tax the Turtles in all-new ways, but as Shredder nudges them towards darkness, it's a challenge which may also undermine the foundations of their heroism. If anyone can set them back on the right path - or reassure them that they're making a necessary sacrifice - it's Splinter.

Considering the importance of a mission that not only requires the Turtles to become adept at ninja skills that can turn them into the villains, the advice Splinter gives will undoubtedly be life-changing for the Turtles. Indeed, the stakes are so high that however they come out on this other side of the mission, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are likely to have attained the maturity Splinter always hoped they would - for good or for evil.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #132 will be on sale September 7 from IDW Publishing.
