Meta's Threads app is linked to Instagram, and as a result, s' Instagram profiles now display a Threads badge. While Threads is a promising Twitter competitor, it's currently missing several features, including a desktop site, following feed, and the ability to add GIFs, among others. Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, has already confirmed that many of these features will be added to the app.

Now that a good number of Instagram s have set up their Threads s, they would have noticed a Threads badge on their Instagram profile. While Instagram previously displayed the numbered badge under the 's name, that's now been replaced by a Threads profile shortcut next to the Instagram name. There are two ways to hide the Threads badge on Instagram. The easiest way to do this is by long-pressing the icon and tapping 'Remove.'

The second way to hide the Threads badge is by editing the Instagram profile. To do this, go to the profile page on Instagram and tap 'Edit Profile.' Turn off the toggle next to 'Show Threads shortcut.' The icon will now be removed. Unlike the original Threads badge that could not be added back after it was removed, Instagram s can unhide the Threads profile shortcut at any time by going back to 'Edit Profile' and turning on the same toggle.

The number displayed next to the original Threads badge signified how many people signed up for Threads before the , and their place in the queue. For example, if the Threads badge said 200,000, it means that the was the 200,000th person to sign up for a Threads . Given that Threads has logged over 150 million s, it was clearly not practical to continue displaying the numbers.

Like the older Threads badge, the profile shortcut opens the 's Threads profile when tapped. The Threads profile also displays an Instagram shortcut. Threads s can tap the shortcut to go to a 's Instagram profile. It's worth noting that if a person has a private Instagram profile, it might not be viewable unless the Threads follows them on Instagram too. Unlike the Threads shortcut on Instagram, the Instagram shortcut on Threads cannot be removed at this time.
