The box office is becoming a trickier and trickier thing to follow and analyze when it comes to big-budget releases, especially as more find themselves failing, and one that will forever remain a mystery to me is Blade Runner 2049 not becoming a smash hit. The movie came right on the heels of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, showcasing that a sci-fi legacy sequel could work, and had an A-list roster behind it that more people should have been interested. I do understand its slower pace and longer runtime made it difficult for some people to get into, but certainly not to the point of it losing over $100 million for its studios.
