Director Jon M. Chu said that the purpose of the color palette for <em>Wicked </em>was to make the world feel more realistic and relatable. On the one hand, I see what he's going for and respect his perspective, but I think the characters are strong enough to resonate with audiences even if the world feels outlandish. It's Oz, after all, and part of the charm of the original movie is the extraordinarily vibrant coloring due to technicolor.
