Thor: Ragnarok while also making Love & Thunder’s villain even more menacing. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 is not only introducing new superheroes, events, and concepts but it’s also expanding the stories of well-established characters, as is the case of Thor (Chris Hemsworth). The God of Thunder is the first MCU superhero to get four solo movies, and he’s about to come across one of the most dangerous villains this universe has seen in Thor: Love & Thunder.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love & Thunder will see Thor attempting to find inner peace after the chaotic events of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who has now become Mighty Thor. Thor: Love & Thunder will also introduce Zeus (Russell Crowe), the king of the Olympians, and reunite viewers with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Lady Sif (Jamie Alexander).

Lady Sif is one of the characters closest to Thor, having fought many battles together, but she was nowhere to be seen in Thor: Ragnarok. Thor’s third solo movie saw the destruction of Asgard and Thor saving his fellow Asgardians, but Lady Sif was nowhere to be seen nor were her whereabouts mentioned. With Sif finally coming back in Thor: Love & Thunder, all questions about where she has been and what she has done since Thor: The Dark World will have to be answered, and a theory not only explains what happened to her but also makes Gorr an even more threatening villain.

Lady Sif Has Been Missing For Years - But Returns In Love & Thunder

Lady Sif fighting besides Thor

Lady Sif made her MCU debut back in 2011 in Thor was banished to Earth and Odin went into Odinsleep, Sif and the Warriors went against the orders of the new king, Loki, and traveled to Earth to bring Thor back, where they all fought against the Destroyer. Once the Destroyer was defeated and Thor regained his powers, they all returned to Asgard.

Sif returned in Thor: The Dark World, where she battled Marauders in Vanaheim alongside the Warriors Three and she saved Thor from the attack of a Marauder when he ed the battle. After Jane absorbed the Aether and was taken to Asgard, Sif defended this realm from the Dark Elves, helped Jane Foster escape, and stayed in Asgard to keep it safe. At the end of Thor: The Dark World, Sif and Volstagg took the Aether to The Collector, and after working with S.H.I.E.L.D. for a while, she returned to Asgard, where she was banished by Loki posing as Odin, and she later vanished as a result of Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War. Sif hasn’t been seen since then as she didn’t appear in Thor: Ragnarok, but she’s ready to return to the MCU in Thor: Love & Thunder.

Theory: Gorr Is The Reason For Lady Sif's Thor: Ragnarok Absence

Thor 4 Gorr God Butcher

As the MCU keeps expanding, more and more questions emerge, and Lady Sif’s Thor: Ragnarok absence is one big question that, luckily, will be answered soon. Marvel hasn’t given any hints at what happened to Sif after Thor: The Dark World except for her banishment from Asgard and being one of the victims of Thanos' snap, but there’s one clever way the studio can explain her absence. With Gorr the God Butcher killing gods across space, Marvel could justify Sif’s absence and bring her into the main story of Thor: Love & Thunder by revealing she has been on the trail of Gorr all these years. Kevin Feige has said that Sif is “out there, somewhere”, so having her following Gorr’s trail since her banishment from Asgard would make sense. This would also bring Sif into the story and make her part of the mission to defeat Gorr, while also making Gorr’s arrival a lot more believable than just having him suddenly appear and kill gods.

Lady Sif Theory Makes Gorr An Even Bigger Villain For Thor: Love & Thunder

Christian Bale as Gorr in Thor: Love and Thunder

This Lady Sif theory not only benefits the legendary warrior by giving her a good reason to not show up in Thor: Ragnarok and bringing her into Love & Thunder’s story but it also makes Gorr an even bigger and more threatening villain. Love & Thunder will be Gorr’s MCU debut, and he has never been mentioned before, but it would be hard to believe that he just recently started his quest to kill every single god there is, but this Lady Sif theory would reveal that he has already been killing gods for years. If Gorr has been hunting gods, killing them, and using the sword (believed to be the All-Black Necrosword, like in the comics) for a long time now, he will be quite powerful and dangerous by the time he comes across Thor and company.

During his time in the MCU, Thor has come across different villains – from Dark Elves to Thanos and even his own siblings, as happened with Loki and Hela – but Gorr is unlike any other bad guy he has encountered before. Gorr is on a personal revenge mission against all gods because they never answered his prayers and only brought him tragedy and pain, and forming a bond with the All-Black Necrosword has made him deadlier. Gorr is already a complex character, and by revealing he has been killing gods for years and Sif has been following him, the MCU would be making his story more interesting and layered, while also making Sif a key character in Thor: Love & Thunder.
