Despite her death at the end of Thor: Ragnarok, Natalie Portman reprised her role as Jane Foster for Phase 4's Love & Thunder, now wielding the rebuilt Mjolnir and operating as the Mighty Thor, a persona that gives her temporary relief from her cancer. As it turned out, Foster's transformation into the Mighty Thor was actually enabling her cancer to metastasize, causing the new superhero to away in an emotional moment after the battle against Gorr the God Butcher.

Not all hope is lost for the future of Jane Foster in the MCU, however, as Thor: Love & Thunder's post-credits scene revealed that she had been granted access to Valhalla. This could mean one of Foster's most recent Marvel Comic runs might come to fruition in the MCU, which could see her become an extremely powerful teammate for the Avengers. Since the future of Thor is unclear, the reintroduction of Jane Foster as a potential Thor replacement could be the perfect choice for Marvel Studios.

Love & Thunder's Post-Credits Revealed Jane Foster Has Gone To Valhalla

Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) smiles as she realizes she has arrived in Valhalla in Thor: Love and Thunder

In recent years, several afterlives have made MCU appearances, including the Ancestral Plane in Asgardian afterlife, Valhalla. Valhalla's lore suggests that only the bravest soldiers, those who give their lives in battle, are worthy of walking through the golden gates, which means Jane Foster is welcomed with open arms after helping to neutralize the Gorr threat, and also succumbing to her personal battle with cancer. Even though Valhalla is an afterlife, this doesn't mean that Foster can't return to her former glory.

MCU viewers have seen characters return from their respective afterlives before, since T'Challa and Killmonger (and Shuri in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) only spent a short time in the Ancestral Plane before returning, and Marc Spector manages to reclaim Steven from the Duat. This means that it's very likely that Jane Foster could return, creating hope that other Avengers: Endgame, so it's possible he could return too.

In 2019's The War of the Realms Marvel Comics storyline, Jane Foster takes up the mantle of Valkyrie after the legendary Asgardian heroes are killed by Malekith and his forces. This event takes place after Foster's return from Valhalla, with the help of Thor and Odin, and after she had successfully gone through chemotherapy, meaning she was slowly getting back to full force. As a Valkyrie, Foster wields Undrjarn the All-Weapon, a device created from the fragments of Mjolnir that can transform into various types of weapons, making her a very powerful addition to Marvel's roster.

This would be the perfect trajectory to take the MCU's Jane Foster, which could see her prove the true extent of her strength, taking on the moniker of a superhero without cancer dragging her down. With Thor's MCU future hanging in the balance, Foster as a Valkyrie could make the perfect replacement, and legacy hero, for the original Avenger. While Thor: Love & Thunder was one of Marvel Studios' most divisive projects, it could have perfectly set up a very powerful future hero for the MCU.
