The new trailer also reveals a possible ending for the God of Thunder in the MCU. Both trailers for the new movie touch on Thor's desire to walk away from battle for a simpler and more peaceful life. Context clues in the new trailer raise the possibility that he does actually leave behind his ax, and Love and Thunder could be Thor's swan song, at least for now.
The Story Of Thor
The trailer opens with Korg telling the story of Thor's life to a group of blue-skinned alien onlookers. A few things hint at this occurring at the end of the movie, and this story is actually the complete story of Thor, perhaps even in the MCU.
Korg tells the story in sight of the tree featured so prominently in the trailers so far, a peaceful place Thor seems to put his ax down for good. Korg's story serves not just as an introduction for a new audience, but a warm goodbye for those who've been on the journey so far.
The Centurians
The blue-skinned aliens from both trailers likely play a large role in the story, if they appear at the end of the movie. They also play a large role in Marvel Comics lore, if they turn out to be the Centurians, the species Yondu hails from.
Yondu, among the most powerful Guardians of the Galaxy from Marvel Comics, hails from the Alpha Centauri system, specifically Centauri IV. Two suns appear in the sky of the planet in the trailer, including a bright yellow one and a more distant one, which corresponds to Alpha Centauri A and B, the system's main stars.
Centauri VI
If the planet from the trailer turns out to be Centauri IV, then the new trailer reveals an even more intriguing connection. Thena mentioned Centauri VI in Eternals as a planet the Celestials destroyed in their pursuit to make more of their kind.
The Celestials rank among the most powerful cosmic beings in the Marvel Universe and are effectively gods in the eyes of many. If Gorr the God Butcher comes from the Alpha Centauri system, the Celestials may be the ultimate target of his ire.
God Bod
The first teaser revealed Thor getting back into shape, but the new trailer shows how far he goes. A great shot in the trailer sees Thor pulling the Benatar, the Guardians of the Galaxy's starship, with tow chains, a simple display of his tremendous Asgardian power.
The Benatar's engines burn at what seems to be full strength, though Thor likely doesn't hold on if she opens up into a Jump Point and travels to another star system. Still, the trailer suggests Thor's strength is greater than ever.
Thor Is Not Worthy
The key Jason Aaron run from the early 2010s, some of the best Thor comics to read before the movie, explored a Thor found to be unworthy of Mjölnir. The new trailer reveals that the same may be true with the reforged hammer in the MCU.
Thor reaches for the hammer in the trailer, but it does not go to him. Instead, it returns to the hand of Jane Foster. This suggests Thor's worthiness has potentially changed, or something about the powerful hammer changed when Hela destroyed it.
Thor And Jane Haven't Met Since The Snap
Avengers: Endgame revealed Jane Foster got snapped. The new trailer makes clear she and Thor haven't reunited in the time since everyone came back. Jane believes it's been three years since she last saw Thor, but he re it as eight years, seven months, and six days.
Jane clearly occupies a lot of Thor's heart and mind, given how close he tracks the time they've spent apart. Thor left Earth with the Guardians at the end of Endgame and hasn't been back to Earth since, though he goes back to New Asgard at some point in the new movie.
The Living Tribunal
Jane Foster enters a dark chamber in the new trailer, which contains major MCU Easter eggs. The new trailer continues to tease The Living Tribunal, the all-powerful cosmic being who just made an unexpected cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
A statue of The Living Tribunal stands behind Jane, similar to the one that appeared in The Void from Loki. The actual character likely appears in the MCU sooner rather than later given all the references he's gotten in the last year.
The Watcher Is There Too
Other statues stand in the chamber with The Living Tribunal, revealing another connection to the broader MCU. The Watcher appears right behind The Living Tribunal, a clear reference to the all-knowing observer from What If..?
The chamber evidences some kind of cosmic hierarchy in the MCU, somewhat similar to that in Marvel Comics. Other statues hint at representations of characters like Lady Death, a major figure from The Infinity Gauntlet comic book storyline.
Gorr Is Deteriorating
Comic book fans know Gorr the God Butcher wields the Necro Sword, the weapon he uses to kill gods like Falligar the Behemoth. He uses the sword in live-action as well, but doing so seems to have a very negative effect on him as Gorr deteriorates through the trailer.
Various shots from the trailer reveal Gorr at some point appears relatively healthy. Other shots show him without any color at all and oozing a black good from his eyes and mouth, suggesting the powerful weapon takes a heavy toll on him.
Thor Is On Trial
Several scenes from the trailer reveal Thor may be on trial. He fights numerous armored warriors in what seems to be Olympus and stands before Zeus, played by Russel Crowe, while bound in the Greek god's signature golden lightning.
The question becomes why Thor stands trial at Olympus. Ancient animosity exists in the comics between Asgard and Olympus, and the same could be true in the MCU. Another possibility lies in Zeus confusing Thor for the culprit behind the murder of the gods.
