Palia is a new game currently in Beta Access that acts as a cozy, MMO adventure game. Players just beginning in Palia will have an easier and more enjoyable time with a few extra tips, particularly where it concerns resource accumulation and tool upgrades. The game can seem like quite a lot when just getting started, but players should take their time to ease into the cozy nature of the game and enjoy the adventure.

While Palia is still in Beta Access, new players are often being added and can request to be added to the servers. The game has a mixture of elements from games such as Stardew Valley and Minecraft, all while being able to create a neighborhood and community with friends. To begin building this community, here are seven tips to give players a head start.

Players should be aware that because of Palia's Beta status, some of the information in this list may change upon full release.

7 Selling Resources/Making Money

Hunting in Palia

Players may be tempted to start selling many starting resources to get the Gold they need from the various shops around Palia. However, these starting resources are very important to get new tools, upgrades, and building the player’s house. This makes it important to try to keep these crafting resources even if players have not found a recipe to use them with yet, as they will soon become relevant.

Instead, look for items that can be foraged throughout Palia and that will respawn when players return to the area. These can be sold and gathered again to keep or sell relatively quickly, allowing players to create a cash income. Another way to get Gold quickly is to hunt Sernuk with a bow and arrow, sell the meat and antlers, and hide for a pretty penny.

To get around the map easier, a paraglider similar to Link's in Zelda: TOTK can be found in Bahari Bay.

6 Focus To Level Up

Focus is one of the best tools players have to level up their skills quickly, as it allows players to advance any skill they use faster than they would without being focused. This includes basic skills such as foraging, hunting, crafting, fishing, and other skills in Palia. Players will have a Focus meter, which will slowly drain as players do tasks.

Players can refill their Focus meter by consuming edible items they have on them, whether they are cooked, purchased, or foraged. Players will need to upgrade their skills to find more recipes and purchase more things from various shops, and keeping an eye on the Focus meter will greatly aid player advancement.

5 Shrines and Renown

The Dragon Shrine in Palia

Similarly, Shrines and Renown in Palia are a big part of player advancement and can affect the player’s Focus level. Renown can be spent at the Phoenix Statue, the Dragon Shrine, and City Hall to buy various perks for the player. The Phoenix Statue will grant players a 5% focus bonus per 100 Renown spent, starting at 20% for the first purchase. This increases the bonus gained by doing tasks while Focused.

Spending 100 Renown at the Dragon Shrine likewise allows players to increase the Maximum Capacity of their Focus meter, allowing them to use recipes to their full potential. These two are the best places to spend Renown at the beginning of Palia, as these will allow players to level up quicker. The last place to spend Renown, at City Hall, will allow players to purchase more land for their homestead, but this is a low priority as the starting plots are quite generous compared to games like Animal Crossing.

4 Upgrading Tools

Crafting upgraded tools is a large part of this game, as players will need better tools to collect more resources. This includes resources such as Heartwood in Palia, which is required for nearly every tool upgrade. The recipes for the various tool upgrades can often be found at the relevant Guild Store. Players will start with Makeshift Tools that will never break, but these tools can only collect the most basic items.

Unlike the Makeshift versions, the Upgraded Tools will degrade over time. However, players should be aware that it is possible to visit the blacksmith to repair these tools. Keep an eye on the yellow circle representing tool durability and visit the blacksmith whenever a player is close by to keep from having to craft new tools every time they break. Players can also purchase a recipe for a Repair Block to repair their tools themselves.

3 Guild Stores and Recipes

Players will unlock the relevant Guild store for a particular skill, such as fishing or crafting, at Level 2 of that skill. Practicing that skill enough to reach that level will allow players to open the relevant Guild store and unlock many more possibilities. If players think they are searching for something that should be an easy progression, such as a tool upgrade in Palia, that they have not found, chances are they need to reach Level 2.

Once the stores have opened, many more recipes will be available for purchase. For example, getting to Level 2 in fishing will unlock the appearance of the recipe for a worm farm from that Guild. Purchasing and crafting that recipe will allow players to get their bait instead of buying it, which will save both time and money.

2 Advancing Relationships

Relationships with NPCs are quite similar to relationships in Stardew Valley. Players can bring NPCs gifts and complete quests to advance their relationship level with them. Townsfolk will request certain gifts, which can be viewed from the relationship tab in the menu and whether the player has already delivered the gift.

To advance the relationship even further with an NPC that the player has already developed a friendship with, players can present that NPC with chocolate. A box of chocolates will cost the player 200 Gold from Zeki’s, but it will show that the player is interested in that character romantically. While not guaranteed, giving chocolate could further advance the relationship.

1 Best With Friends

Three PCs mining together in Palia

While players can enjoy friendships, and more, with NPCs in Palia, the true joy of this cozy game can be found with real-life friends. Palia encourages players to up with other people to increase their own enjoyment of the game and reap more benefits than if they played alone. For instance, fishing with friends will grant everyone a buff toward their hook time and will continue to stack the more friends a player has.

Similarly, loot is unique to each player so that everyone will acquire the full amount of loot from things like foraging, hunting, mining, and logging. For logging, glowing trees can only be cut down by mining together as they will otherwise regenerate too quickly. This is the only way to get Flow-Infused Wood, and everyone reaps the full reward. This allows everyone in Palia to enjoy a cozy session of gathering materials together without fighting over resources.
