Summary

  • The Witcher 3 mod "Trophy Necromancy" lets players summon undead monsters from collected trophies to fight alongside Geralt.
  • Discover the necromancy ability through a quest and use a quick-use book to bring trophy monsters back to life.
  • Summoned monsters level up with Geralt, staying longer as they gain experience, but indulging in necromancy may change the game's tone.

The Witcher 3 may already be filled with undead monstrosities but players who want to use these zombies for their own nefarious gain should check out this necromancy mod. One of the more unexplored mechanics on offer in Geralt's third mainline video game adventure is the idea of collecting trophies of particularly challenging monsters, hanging them from Roach as a symbol of strength that also grants some minor ive bonuses. The system is sparse and can largely be ignored, but with the assistance of a fun add-on, it takes on an entirely new form.

Posted to Nexus Mods by creator Freak, the "Trophy Necromancy" mod allows Geralt to summon whatever trophies he's collected back to life as monsters that can fight by his side. Leaning into the more horrific practice of necromancy fits into the overall tone of The Witcher, even though it seems unlikely that The White Wolf would engage in such dark arts. Fortunately, this non-canon mod at least makes trophies more valuable as the undead creatures that fight by Geralt's side gain experience just like their master, becoming stronger the more enemies they manage to slay.

Gaining access to the necromancy ability is actually surprisingly easy as a simple book can be discovered during the "Necromancy, the forbidden magic" quest that unlocks the sinister magic. With the tome assigned to a quick-use slot, players will need to make sure whatever trophy they want to summon from the dead is also equipped. Once those requirements have been met, a simple press of a button will allow Geralt to call forth whatever abomination he wants.

It's worth noting that every summonable trophy monster begins at Level 1 and can only stick around for 30 seconds but once they start gaining levels, they'll extend their second life much longer. Their level caps are tied to Geralt's, so the stronger the master, the more powerful the minions. Bear in mind that indulging in such dark arts is sure to twist The Witcher's high-fantasy story into something entirely more scary, which is perfect for horror fans but may not appeal to those who prefer to keep their magic clean.

The "Trophy Necromancy" mod for The Witcher 3 is undoubtedly an excellent addition to the game's catalog of mods that continues to expand every day. The recent release of official modding tools and has allowed fans to really dig into the RPG's bones and build some unpredictable creations. Necromancy may be a forbidden form of magic, but tampering with code can only lead to some exciting discoveries...
