Early on, Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) looked like she was going to have the most fulfilling ending for the Ratliff family in The White Lotus season 3’s ending, the Ratliffs had some informative, life-changing experiences and self-reflection in Thailand, largely in regard to whether they’d be able to survive without the luxuries and privileges of their wealthy, powerful lives.
That’ll certainly be tested upon returning home, as Timothy’s crimes led to The White Lotus season 1 ending.
Quinn's The White Lotus Season 1 Ending Is What Piper's Should Have Been In Thailand
Quinn Tried To Do What Piper Couldn't
Piper was originally set on the idea of separating herself from her family and their priorities, which would have involved staying in Thailand despite their protests. That decision would have resembled Quinn Mossbacher’s (Fred Hechinger) story from The White Lotus season 1. Quinn was a teen from a wealthy family much like the Ratliffs, but he wasn’t interested in pursuing the expectations they had set out for him. At the end of the trip, Quinn secretly decided not to get on the plane, go back to the resort, and seemingly go row with the locals in Maui again.

The White Lotus Season 3 Finale's Deleted Piper & Zion Scene Would Have Helped Fix A Disappointing Part Of The Ratliff Family's Ending
Not every filmed scene made the cut for the season 3 finale of The White Lotus, including one shocking moment shared between Piper and Zion.
In both cases, Piper and Quinn wanted to explore other cultures and ways of life that departed from their own families and upbringings. However, while Quinn truly went through with his plan and took action to try to stay, Piper abandoned her plans and instead contentedly ed the Ratliff family on the boat ride away from the resort. Quinn’s ending turned out to be more irable and risky, with Piper’s ending being more disappointing despite still allowing her to learn to accept herself and what she wants out of life.
Quinn Probably Still Left Hawaii Shortly After The White Lotus Season 1's Ending
Quinn Was Still A Teenager
Even though Quinn made the bold choice to stay in Hawaii without his family, that ending probably lasted about 24 hours. Quinn was still a minor, so he would have been under his parents’ care and wouldn’t be able to run away to Hawaii as easily as he might have hoped. In reality, the Mossbacher family likely got off the plane upon realizing that Quinn wasn’t on the flight or booked a return flight to Hawaii directly upon landing at their next stop.
Quinn couldn’t have gone too far or stayed on his own for too long, so it’s probable that his parents found him in Hawaii, immediately brought him back home, and grounded him as punishment. Therefore, even though Quinn’s choice to stay in Hawaii was what many hoped would happen with Piper in The White Lotus season 3’s ending, it certainly didn’t work out for the former. Had Piper chosen to stay in Thailand, her parents couldn’t have done anything to force her to return since she was an adult, but Quinn never had that option.
The White Lotus is officially renewed for season 4 on HBO.
Still, now that Timothy is facing criminal charges and potential prison time for his money-laundering scheme, Piper won’t be going back to the luxuries that she realized she couldn’t live without in Thailand. As such, on a much less extreme level, Piper is still arguably getting the experience she set out to have before The White Lotus season 3 – she no longer has the comforts of her family’s vast wealth or powerful reputation to survive on. Meanwhile, Quinn still had access to the Mossbacher family’s money and status after inevitably returning home.
