It's finally happened — Tim and Lucy have a real and meaningful talk about their relationship and breakup in of The Rookie season 7, many have been waiting for the two characters to address the state of their relationship and discuss how they can move forward (in the hope that it would lead to a Chenford reunion). But fans likely didn't expect the conversation to play out like it does in "A Deadly Secret."

As fans know, Tim broke up with Lucy in The Rookie season 6. Since then, they have slowly recovered their friendship and returned to their normal dynamic at work. Tim and Lucy also hooked up a couple of times in The Rookie season 7, but as of episode 15, they haven't officially gotten back together. The good news is that the show has laid the groundwork for Tim and Lucy to rekindle their romance. The bad news is that the execution of their reunion has been a bit sloppy, which will make it much less exciting than it should be.

The Truth About Chenford's Breakup Comes Out

The Rookie season 7, episode 15 serves as this year's true crime documentary episode. However, it also contains a major development in Tim and Lucy's season 7 arc. During the hour, Tim and Lucy travel to Westview Psychiatric Hospital, where they get locked in a room together and are forced to finally speak the truth (against their will, thanks to them accidentally ingesting sodium pentothal, aka truth serum).

Tim its to his ex-girlfriend that he ended things with her to punish himself for failing, a lesson he learned from his father. Lucy then points out that he's not the only one who got hurt in the breakup, which Tim acknowledges. Afterward, Lucy reveals that she has already forgiven Tim, much to her surprise. Consequently, it seems like only one thing stands in the way of Tim and Lucy getting back together in The Rookie season 7 — their respective ranks within the LAPD. If and when Lucy es the lieutenant's exam, she and Tim are free to reunite.

While Chenford's moment in episode 15 is exciting and everything I have wanted for the couple since The Rookie season 7 premiered, the execution of their long-awaited discussion is disappointing and frustrating. It takes place during the show's annual goofy true crime documentary episode. Not only that, but the significant development in Tim and Lucy's relationship happens while both characters are high and trapped in a creepy psychiatric hospital. So, Tim and Lucy's big talk doesn't get the attention or seriousness it deserves, cheapening it in The Rookie season 7.
