Summary

  • Jenna Dewan returns to film season 7 of The Rookie post-maternity leave, easing concerns about her character's fate.
  • Bailey's character will be missing from at least a few episodes.
  • Bailey's ex-husband's escape is a major storyline in The Rookie season 7, putting Bailey (and John) in possible danger.

Jenna Dewan has returned to filming The Rookie's cast began filming season 7 around June 20, 2024, but Dewan didn't them until early August. Dewan gave birth to her and her partner's (Steve Kazee) second child, a girl named Rhiannon Lee Kathryn Kazee, in June. Consequently, the actress took a couple of months off of work before returning to set in August.

ABC has pushed The Rookie season 7's premiere to early 2025, but a concrete release date hasn't been announced (yet).

It's unclear which episode will be Bailey's first in The Rookie season 7, but she will likely be missing from at least three episodes. So, fans shouldn't expect to see Dewan's character until a few weeks into the new season. It will be interesting to see how the writers explain Bailey's absence in the episodes of The Rookie season 7, especially considering what happened at the end of season 6's last episode.

Jenna Dewan's Bailey Has A Big Story In The Rookie Season 7 After Season 6's Ending

Bailey's Ex-Husband Broke Out Of Prison

Matthew Glave as Oscar Hutchinson and Steve Kazee as Jason Wyler in The Rookie season 6 finale

As some may recall, the action-packed season 6 finale of The Rookie revealed that Oscar Hutchinson and Bailey's ex-husband, Jason Wyler (played by Jenna Dewan's real-life partner Steve Kazee), escaped prison. Oscar helped Monica Stevens get intel on her enemies, and in exchange, she gave him the tools necessary to break out. Oscar recruited Jason, and after the two did what Monica asked, she aided in their escape. Before getting in the car Monica provided for them, Jason told Oscar that he could drop him off in Los Angeles, suggesting he's out for revenge against his ex-wife and her new husband.

When The Rookie season 7 premieres, Bailey's ex-husband should be the characters' main priority, even if she isn't there.

The Rookie villain is back after season 6 ended with Bailey and John Nolan being notified about Oscar and Jason's escape, suggesting that it will be a major storyline in season 7. The writers can't just sweep Jason's thirst for revenge under the rug, and Bailey will be at the center of it all in the episodes. She will still be missing in the first few episodes of The Rookie season 7, though.

What Will Happen With Bailey & Jason In The Rookie Season 7?

Jason Is Out For Revenge

When The Rookie season 7 premieres, Bailey's ex-husband should be the characters' main priority, even if she isn't there. Perhaps Bailey is taken away for her own safety while Nolan and the others track down Jason. However, given that Dewan's character eventually returns a few episodes later, Jason likely doesn't gravely hurt her. The episodes should show some sort of confrontation between Bailey and Jason, though, given that Jason's escape was the main cliffhanger in The Rookie season 6 finale.
