  • The actor questions whether revealing the Stranger's name is necessary at this point in the storyline, as the show prepares to return for season 2.

end of the Rings of Power season 1.

While speaking with Collider at San Diego Comic-Con, Weyman explained why he does not believe the Stranger's identity is that important as the story moves forward into season 2. He reflected on what has been revealed about his character so far and that, despite the confirmation of his identity, he believes that viewers can understand the Stranger better than many other characters. Check out his comments below:

Well, I've only been recently realizing this, but the thing that I'm really going for now is the fact that we already know who he is. We've all watched him in Season 1. He was nothing when he arrived. He'd literally no memory from before that, and we've seen everything that he's been. So actually, of all the characters we've seen so far, I think we know him best. Do we need his name at this point? I don't know.

Confirming The Stranger As Gandalf Could Be A Mistake

There Are Advantages To Ambiguity.

The Rings of Power has a planned five-season arc, meaning there is plenty of time left to reveal more about the Stranger's past and for there to be no ambiguity in his identity.

Even though the ambiguity surrounding the Stranger can be frustrating, particularly in how he does or does not align with specific details of J.R.R. Tolkien's lore, Weyman makes a valid point. Confirming that The Stranger is Gandalf thrusts a great deal onto The Rings of Power character, including actions he will not take until thousands of years later during the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. This puts too much attention on whom the Stranger will become instead of who he currently is in The Rings of Power.

Every Sign The Stranger Is Gandalf In The Rings of Power

The Rings of Power season 1 finale heavily hints Daniel Weyman's Stranger is Gandalf, but leaves a crumb of doubt. Here's every clue he is.

As Weyman highlights, Rings of Power has already shown who the Stranger is, as an individual committed to doing good deeds and helping others with his immense power. He has chosen a righteous path despite not knowing who he is or where he comes from, and that speaks volumes about the character's values. That is most important to know, as the Stranger's journey alongside the comionate Nori continues in The Rings of Power season 2.

The Stranger and Nori are headed to the lands of Rhûn at the end of The Rings of Power season 1.

There is also a possibility that the series will eventually confirm the Stranger to be Gandalf, but this explicit confirmation will work better at a later point in the story. The Rings of Power has a planned five-season arc, meaning there is plenty of time left to reveal more about the Stranger's past and for there to be no ambiguity in his identity. The Stranger was one of the most captivating parts of season 1 and this will likely continue to be the case in season 2.
