Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Pitt season 1, episode 15.Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball) had a rough time in The Pitt season 2. That means Langdon will get a chance to redeem himself, and it already seems like a fascinating story.
While the prospect of Langdon itting his mistakes and making amends already sounds like another exciting emotional plot for The Pitt season 2, there are even more reasons to be excited about it. For one, Langdon will get a chance to come back to a completely different ER than the one he left. The Pitt season 2 takes place months after the first season, and Langdon will be the audience's way of learning about everything that took place between seasons. It's also set on the Fourth of July, which has some big implications for Langdon's redemption arc.
Langdon's First Day Back Will Be Fourth Of July
The Pitt Season 2 Will Show Langdon Returning From Rehab Months Later
Series creator R. Scott Gemmill recently revealed that The Pitt season 2 will follow Dr. Langdon's first day back at PTMC, which will take place on the Fourth of July (via TVLine).
I think we will pick up on Langdon’s first day back at work, but it’ll be more than a month…. The biggest driver of [the Season 2 time jump is] Langdon. Thirty days is probably the minimum he would have to do. You can do 60, 90… and part of [the time jump] is driven by when we can shoot in Pittsburgh. We’re going to shoot in September again. It has to look like the right time of year, whether it’s spring, summer or fall, and we’ve done fall [in Season 1]. We’re going to do Fourth of July weekend. Nine, basically 10 months later, gives a lot of room for us to have developed a few stories in the interim and catch up with everyone. And with it being Langdon’s first day back, we get to catch up as he catches up with all those people.
As Gemmill noted, The Pitt season 2's time jump will give Langdon enough time to go through rehab, get on his path to recovery, and make his professional comeback as an ER doctor. That also means Langdon will have had enough time to consider the mistakes he made - both taking drugs in the first place and his outburst at Robby - and begin to fix them. That would set up Langdon's redemption arc perfectly, but there's another reason the timeline of The Pitt season 2 is exciting for Langdon's story.
Langdon Will Be Tested Like Never Before In The Pitt Season 2
Langdon Will Have To Balance An Influx Of Patients, The Stress Of Returning To Work, & His Addiction All At Once In The Pitt Season 2
Langdon, like the rest of the doctors at PTMC, went through figurative hell with the PittFest shooting. Even that, however, pales in comparison to what he's going to have to go through in The Pitt season 2. Langdon coming back to the hospital on the Fourth of July means the ER will be filled with just as many patients and just as much chaos as there was before, like burns from grills and fireworks and people who were injured while intoxicated. However, he's going to have a few other problems to juggle at the same time.

Langdon's Dark The Pitt Season 1 Finale Story Worked Even Better By Avoiding His Most Redemptive Character Dynamic
Although a beloved character dynamic with Dr. Frank Langdon was missing from The Pitt's season 1 finale, it made the impact of his new low stronger.
The Pitt season 2 will be the first time Langdon returns to PTMC in an official capacity, which means he's going to have to deal with a lot of fallout from his drug misuse. He'll have to start working under Robby again, a man he accused of being a hypocrite. He'll also have to start teaching Dr. Santos again, even though she outed Langdon for stealing drugs from the hospital. On top of those relationships, Langdon is also going to have to face all the stigma and judgment of being a recovering addict, which won't mesh well with the high-stress environment of a busy emergency room.
Langdon faces a bigger challenge in The Pitt season 2 than he's probably ever faced before, including rehab. He's going to be exposed to a lot of stress from difficult patients, hectic conditions, and the shame of how he behaved in season 1. That, coupled with coming back to the place where he has easy access to narcotics, could even challenge Langdon's sobriety again. Whatever The Pitt season 2 has in store for Langdon is going to be just as tense, stressful, and exciting as the show has always been.
