Tom Holland will star in an adaptation of John Grisham's best-selling 1997 novel, the latest project for the busy performer. After taking a year-long break following his work in the Apple TV+ miniseries The Crowded Room, Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4. He'll also appear in two Avengers films, in addition to a key role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey adaptation.

Deadline gives word that Holland has added another film to his growing slate. He is set to star and produce an adaptation of John Grisham's The Partner. Released in 1997, and going on to become a best-seller, The Partner focuses on a lawyer who fakes his own death to start a new life. The adaptation is set at Universal with Oscar-winning screenwriter Graham Moore penning the script.

What Is The Partner About & What Does It Mean For Holland?

It's Twisty

The Partner, released one year after Holland was born, focuses on Patrick Lanigan. A young partner at an impressive law firm, Patrick seems to have perished in a burning car. In the process, he's left behind a wife, a newborn daughter, and a secret. Lanigan fakes his own death to start a new life that's helped by some $90 million he's stolen from a client. Although he finds love and happiness at first, his secret doesn't stay hidden.

Tom Holland vs. Tom Holland Is Officially Happening In 2026 - And There's One Clear Winner

Tom Holland is about to go up against himself at the box office, and while Marvel and Nolan are both titans themselves, there is a clear frontrunner.

It's unknown when Holland would begin filming The Partner. He's expected to shoot Spider-Man 4 and Nolan's The Odyssey over the coming months, with both slated for a July 2026 release date, essentially going up against one another. Holland's newly launched production company Billy17, with his younger brother Harry Holland and Will South, has signed a production deal with Sony. That will see the older Holland starring in several projects, including a potential adaptation of the romance novel The Rosie Project.

It is likewise a busy time for Holland personally, as he's making the interview rounds for his non-alcoholic beverage Bero which is a very personal project for the BAFTA winner. There are also reports that he is engaged to long-time girlfriend and fellow star Zendaya after she was seen wearing a ring on her finger at the recent Golden Globes. Even taking into all these different developments, however, the adaptation of The Partner is uniquely exciting.

Back in the 1990s, Grisham's thrillers and others like it ruled Hollywood and did its part to solidify actors like Tom Cruise and Matt Damon. The box office is very different now, generally dominated by franchises and big tentpole events. It will be interesting to track whether Holland's popularity as a performer will help make a hit out of what is a twisty but ultimately classic thriller for adults.

Our Take On Holland's New Movie

Seems Like A Solid Role

Tom Holland is looking down in The Crowded Room

As much as I wish Holland would lend his star power and likability to some lighter fare, be it a cheeky horror movie or a romantic comedy, as he's said he's wanted to in the past, I do think it's interesting that he'll get a chance to do something beyond a dark streaming film and a mega-blockbuster. The Partner is exactly the kind of project that should still have room at the multiplex and I hope his involvement gives the project a boost. It could end up as one of Holland's best movies.
