Summary

  • The Office reboot adds a new co-creator, Michael Koman, who co-created Nathan for You.
  • The series is not a typical reboot and may focus on a documentary about a different subject.
  • Koman's background in docu-reality comedy makes him an ideal choice for the new iteration.

The Office reboot adds a co-creator from a different mockumentary show, according to a new report. Based on the British series of the same name, The Office aired on NBC from 2005 to 2013 and depicted the everyday work lives of employees at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania with a cast that included Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, and more. In September 2023, it was first reported that a reboot of The Office was in the works with the original showrunner, Greg Daniels, returning.

Now, The Office reboot has taken another step forward by adding a co-creator from a different mockumentary. According to Deadline, Daniels has teamed up with Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman to help him develop the new iteration of The Office. However, the reboot remains in the development stage and has not officially been greenlit.

Michael Koman Is A Great Choice For The Office Reboot

At the start of 2024, Daniels opened up a writers room to begin working on the new iteration of The Office, and Koman is just the latest addition to that group. Reports indicate that the series is not technically a reboot, as it will be set in the same universe, but in a completely new office with new characters. Daniels has suggested that the new iteration of The Office could follow a crew doing a documentary on a different subject.

The Office Reboot Plan Is Forgetting A Harsh Reality About The Show’s Original Success

The plan for the reboot of NBC's beloved comedy The Office will have to contend with losing a major factor in the original show's success.

If the new iteration of The Office does decide to take this route, Koman is an excellent choice for co-creator. He previously co-created Nathan for You, which is best described as a docu-reality comedy series. In it, Nathan Fielder uses his business background and knowledge to help struggling small business owners, often offering them outlandish and elaborate ideas. Nathan for You aired on Comedy Central for four seasons and is considered one of the best shows of the 2010s.

In addition, Daniels and Koman both started their careers by writing for Saturday Night Live. Koman also has a personal connection to The Office, as he is married to Ellie Kemper, who ed The Office cast in season 5 as the bubbly but naive receptionist Erin, who replaces Pam. Considering his background, Koman is a great choice for co-creator of the new iteration of The Office, and hopefully, his addition will help accelerate the show through development.
