CBS struck gold with their uproarious sitcom, The Neighborhood, and now the comedy will return for its eighth and final season. Created for the small screen by Jim Reynolds (and debuting in 2018), the series follows the white Midwestern Johnson family, who move into a predominantly Black neighborhood in Los Angeles. Though the overly-friendly family ruffles a few feathers, they strike up an unlikely friendship with their neighbors, the Butlers. The sitcom touches on many familiar culture-clash talking points that have been broached in previous shows, but does so with a modern and open-hearted sense of humor.
The best sitcoms of all time typically stray from the most topical storylines, but The Neighborhood has never been afraid to approach hot-button issues without alienating the audience. Viewers have watched the Johnson and Butler families grow and change together over the show's nearly decade-long run, and that sort of continuity has made it one of CBS's crown jewels. Unfortunately, The Neighborhood is beginning to wind down its impressive tenure on the air. Though CBS has renewed the show for season 8, it will also be the last.

The Neighborhood Season 8 Latest News
CBS Renews & Cancels The Neighborhood
With the network in a state of flux, the latest news confirms that CBS has renewed and canceled The Neighborhood. In a dual move, CBS has opted to bring the Butler and Johnson families back for an eighth season, while also announcing that season 8 will be the last hurrah for The Neighborhood. This announcement comes amid a slew of other cancelations at CBS, and the network has already axed FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, and perhaps most controversial of all, S.W.A.T. starring Shemar Moore.
CBS previously ordered a spinoff of The Neighborhood starring Sheaun McKinney and Marcel Spears that was set to premiere during the 2025–2026 TV season. However, the network ultimately decided not to move forward with the offshoot.
The Neighborhood Season 8 Is Confirmed As The Last
Return To The Neighborhood One Last Time
Even though The Neighborhood has become one of the most popular sitcoms on network TV today, its future was never set in stone at CBS. Eventually, the network opted to renew the show in March 2025. However, it came with the caveat that The Neighborhood season 8 would be the final season of the original series. Throughout its nearly decade-long run on the air, The Neighborhood has been a consistent hit for CBS, but among a slew of cancelations, it's clear that the network is in a state of flux.
The Neighborhood has been a fall staple since its premiere, and there's no reason that the eighth and final outing won't follow the same schedule.
Because the renewal order is still fresh, there are few details about the final season of the series. Most of the information is simply assumptions and educated guesses at this point. However, with CBS looking to get The Neighborhood off its future schedule, the sitcom will likely premiere sometime in the fall of 2025. Like most network shows, The Neighborhood has been a fall staple since its premiere, and there's no reason that the eighth and final outing won't follow the same schedule.
The Neighborhood season 7 premiered on October 21, 2024.

The Neighborhood Season 8 Story Details
The Butler & Johnson Families Grow Together
Predicting exactly what happens in The Neighborhood season 8 is impossible, since the show follows a very familiar sitcom formula each year. Many episodes usually contain a standalone story that explores a conflict typically resolved by the end. However, a few things will carry over into the future, including Marty and Courtney's parenting journey. Additionally, the Johnsons' grappling with Grover turning into a teen and Calvin and Tina becoming empty nesters should come into play.
While speaking with TV Insider after the season 7 finale of The Neighborhood, Cedric the Entertainer teased the show's final episodes. He said, "Like we don't know exactly where our show's going to go, but for me, a good series finale always kind of gives you something to inspire for that may or may not happen, but ultimately, all your heroes have a hero's ending."
The events of The Neighborhood season 7 finale will also have a profound effect on the episodes. During the two-part finale, Marty and Malcolm move into a new house in Venice Beach. The two characters leaving their parents' home was supposed to set up the scrapped Marty and Malcolm spinoff of The Neighborhood, but now that CBS isn't going forward with the show, season 8 will incorporate their new adventures. As always, though, the culture clash between the families will be the heart of The Neighborhood, which should ring true in season 8.
