In the earlier days of her career, Elizabeth Perkins made a name for herself on the big screen with roles such as Susan Lawrence, Tom Hanks’s love interest in Big, and Dorey Walker, the mother in the 1994 remake of Miracle on 34th Street. Perkins has also found great success in television, earning a number of award nominations for portraying Celia Hodes in Weeds along with memorable performances in This Is Us, GLOW, Sharp Objects, and The Afterparty. Perkins is a thrilling inclusion in The Morning Show, and hopefully, Elena’s arc will expand beyond just one short scene.

UBA’s rival network, NBN, has been a bigger player in The Morning Show season 3 than in past seasons as UBA tries to save itself from financial bankruptcy and recover from a targeted cyberhack. In the two-year time jump between The Morning Show seasons 2 and 3, Laura Peterson left her position as host of UBA 365 to co-anchor NBN’s Your Day, America with Audra (Mindy Kaling in another guest star role). Laura’s career switch has also brought NBN to the forefront and led to the network’s president, Elena, finally making an appearance.

As NBN president, Elena is in the same position Cory is at UBA, except, unlike Mr. Ellison, she seems to care more about the news than the ratings. This could explain why Laura left UBA for NBN after her breakup with Bradley in The Morning Show season 3 and why Laura turned to her for advice in episode 9. In her brief cameo, Elizabeth told a story about when she herself was a reporter, establishing her important background prior to becoming NBN president.

Laura's Dilemma Sets Up Elizabeth Perkins As The Morning Show Season 4's New Villain

Laura Confronting Bradley In The Morning Show Season 3 Episode 9.jpg

After Laura discovered Bradley and Cory’s secret in The Morning Show season 3, she struggled with what to do next. While she didn’t reveal any details to her boss, Elena figured out her dilemma involved someone close to her, which could easily be narrowed down to Bradley. She advised Laura to uphold her journalistic moral code even if it meant hurting someone she cared about. When Laura said she would handle it herself, Elena kept using the word “we,” and while she said she trusted the seasoned anchor to make the right decision, her cutthroat journalistic mentality could make her a new villain in The Morning Show season 4.

Bradley, Cory, and Hal had successfully kept their secret hidden for a year before The Morning Show season 3 began. Though Laura said she wasn’t going to reveal what Bradley and Hal did on January 6, there’s still a chance she might, especially under Elena’s influence. With Paul knowing too, it’s unlikely that their secret will remain a secret for long. Outside this massive secret, there are many ways Elena could become a villain, especially with NBN and UBA’s rivalry heating up and Cory’s imminent fate in The Morning Show season 3 finale.
