The new trailer for Bloober Team's psychological horror game The Medium promises a deeply disturbing experience that spans two worlds at once. It was revealed during today's Xbox Games Showcase, an online event that showed off several new games for the Xbox Series X, set to release later this year.

In the absence of E3, which was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Microsoft took its new reveals online in order to drum up excitement for the Xbox Series X. The team has been staggering reveals and events in recent months, and today's showcase was a thorough look at several titles that will be appearing on the new console. 27 games were announced in the showcase, but there were several Microsoft-owned developers whose absence from the showcase did not go unnoticed by fans who were expecting more from the stream.

The Medium was first announced at an Stranger Things might draw parallels between this grim alternate reality and the monstrous Upside Down from the show. The Medium's spirit world can be experienced firsthand in the trailer below:

This dual-world approach to gameplay should provide unique opportunities for puzzle solving and surviving encounters with the game's horrors, including a creepy little girl in a cracked porcelain mask and a terrifying, deep voice which proclaims that "everyone and everything... it all ends in me!" The visual design looks horrifying in a very unique and visceral way and makes for some very memorable moments, such as the point where the protagonist goes through a hideous wall of flesh by peeling through a stitch like it's a zipper.

The Medium looks like a memorable and frightening game, with a very original premise. Like many of the exclusives Microsoft has been announcing for the Xbox Series X, The Medium will also be coming to PC when it releases this holiday season. While there's still a lot that's unknown about this mysterious and terrifying title, fans of psychological horror should consider it one to watch, and console gamers can likely call The Medium a strong point in favor of the Xbox Series X.
