The Lincoln Lawyer has brought a How I Met Your Mother star on board for season 4. This next installment of the legal drama isn't expected to release until 2026, but Netflix has continued to announce new cast who are slated to appear. In addition to regular stars like Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, Neve Campbell, Elliot Gould, and Krista Warner, names like Constance Zimmer have been announced to be added to the cast list for The Lincoln Lawyer season 4. However, that's not all.

Variety has revealed that Cobie Smulders, best known for playing Robin Scherbatsky in the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, will also be ing the cast of The Lincoln Lawyer season 4. Smulders starred on How I Met Your Mother from 2005 to 2014, and has gained further recognition for her role as Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Smulders' other recent TV appearances include The Secret Invasion (2023), Accused (2024), and the Apple TV+ series Shrinking. Nothing is yet known regarding the specifics of Smulder's role in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4. It has been revealed that the installment will comprise 10 episodes and be based on the sixth book in Michael Connelly's Lincoln Lawyer series, titled The Law of Innocence. Season 4 should provide answers regarding what will happen to Mickey Haller after he is falsely arrested for murder. Throughout this story, Mickey is met by a variety of new characters, any of whom could be played by Smulders in Netflix's adaptation.

It was previously revealed that Zimmer would appear as Dana Berg in all 10 of the Lincoln Lawyer episodes. Dana is a "relentless prosecutor who will let nothing stand in the way of a guilty verdict" (via Netflix), and she should serve as a significant adversary for Garcia-Ruflo's character. Smulders could potentially play someone on Dana's team. Or, she may be one of the several FBI agents who confront Mickey during his case. Smulders could even be among those responsible for the pickle Mickey has found himself in in the Lincoln Lawyer season 4. Only time can tell.

As a How I Met Your Mother fan, I'm always thrilled to see the cast brought on to new, exciting projects. Smulders is excellent in comedies, further proven by her guest-star appearance alongside How I Met Your Mother's Jason Segel in Apple TV's Shrinking season. Of course, the actor's MCU role has also demonstrated valuable range, indicating that she will be an excellent fit to Garcia-Ruflo in the Netflix legal drama. The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 has been a long time coming, but with names like Smulders added to the cast list, it should be entirely worth it.
