Aladdin. However, The Gentlemen represents a return to his 'grassroots' and allow him far more creative control over the film than he has had while working on larger franchises over the last few years.

In addition to the usual Guy Ritchie trademarks, we also have some incredible and unique characters in this movie. This article will rank the characters in The Gentlemen based on their badassness and will also contain spoilers for the movie.

Matthew Berger

Jeremy Strong and Matthew McConaughey walking and talking in The Gentlemen

Jeremy Strong played Matthew Berger, a billionaire who is in talks to buy Mickey Pearson's marijuana business. The film's central plot is based around a conspiracy that was concocted between Berger and Dry Eye to drive down the price of Pearson's business by conducting a raid on one of Pearson's farms.

While the raid is successful, it doesn't make Berger badass at all. While he is undoubtedly great at planning, he is easily pushed around by the other characters and his plan to buy Pearson's business at a reduced price fails. He is also openly mocked by Dry Eye for not speaking Cantonese well and his plan is easily seen through by Pearson, resulting in brutal punishment.

Big Dave

Eddie Marsan as Dave in The Gentlemen

Big Dave, played by Eddie Marsan, is the editor of a tabloid named the Daily Print and Fletcher's boss. While he doesn't do much in the film that could be considered too badass, he is certainly a headstrong and confident character.

Perhaps this is most clearly seen in his desire to get revenge on the known drug kingpin, Micky Pearson after his handshake was not reciprocated. While his ultimate fate is certainly less than badass, he is a confident and intriguing character who deserves to be higher on this list than Berger.

Fletcher

Charlie Hunnam and Hugh Grant talking in The Gentlemen

Hugh Grant is certainly playing an exotic role here. While we're used to seeing Hugh Grant play posh, romantic roles here we see him playing a tough, cockney journalist. The character is incredibly clever and worked out much of the plot of the movie. In addition, he is also brave enough to follow a group of gangsters around and gather information on their work.

This is undoubtedly a very badass move on the part of Fletcher, the only reason why he ranks relatively low on this list is that there are far too many badass characters in this movie.

Lord George

Lord George may not have been given enough of a chance to show his badassness in this story, we only see the character getting pushed around by Mickey Pearson and, essentially, being killed by Dry Eye. However, Lord George is inherently a badass character due to the position he finds himself in.

Lord George is the head of a rival drug company to Mickey Pearson and this position would have certainly required a badass attitude to reach. Additionally, like Pearson, Lord George also had to do this in a foreign country which also carries its own difficulties.

Dry Eye

Dry Eye laughing in The Gentlemen

Dry Eye, played by Henry Golding, is a relatively fresh, young gangster. One of his first appearances in the movie is when he tries to buy Mickey Pearson's business, but offers an insulting price. This then leads to an altercation between Mickey Pearson and Lord George (Dry Eye's boss). However, later in the movie, we learn that Dry Eye is working in cahoots with Matthew Berger to bring down the price of Mickey Pearson's business.

While Dry Eye is certainly an intimidating and badass figure, he doesn't seem to have any motive for his actions. He appears to rely more on pure aggression than calculated violence and this ultimately leads to his end.

Raymond

Raymond is one of the more central characters of the movie. While he may appear to be a dapper-looking individual, he is a very calculated and prepared character. It is clear that Raymond does not enjoy getting his hands dirty, yet is more than willing to do so if the need arises.

Perhaps the best example of his badassness comes from his interactions with the people in the crack den and the subsequent chase. Raymond always finds a way to make sure that he is in control of the situation, regardless of whether or not he was outnumbered or caught off guard.

Rosalind Pearson

michelle dockery the gentlemen

Michelle Dockery excels in the role of Rosalind Pearson. While Rosalind Pearson isn't a gangster or a comfortable fighter, she is a cerebral and confident person who was able to fend off Dry Eye's men for an extended period of time. Additionally, despite the fact she was in danger, she was able to stay calm in a similar manner to her husband.

Despite the fact that she may not have as many memorable action scenes in the movie as some other characters, she is still one of the most badass characters in the movie and deserves her place on this list.

Coach

Coach is one of the few 'honorable' characters in the show. Despite the fact that his students are caught up in Pearson and Berger's drug war, Coach successfully saves their lives and helps gain favor with Pearson in doing so. Perhaps Coach's most badass moment came in the takeaway, when Coach successfully fended off a group of young men, with several of them carrying knives.

However, it is not only Coach's fighting ability that makes him so badass, it is also his personality. Colin Farrell portrays Coach in such a lighthearted manner that it is impossible to not see him as a badass.

Mickey Pearson

Of course, Mickey Pearson simply has to take first place on this list. Not only is Matthew McConaughey, essentially, the main character, but he is also one of the cleverest. While violence is not his first choice, he will resort to it if absolutely necessary and not without reason.

Perhaps his most badass moment came towards the end of the movie when, despite crashing his car, Pearson still limped his way to Rosalind's office and saved her from Dry Eye.
