Although Billy Butcher is ostensibly on the side of the good guys in the world of Amazon Prime's as many villainous or negative personality traits as he does heroic or positive ones. He might be a good person deep down, but a lot of his external characteristics are unappealing or downright bad.

Despite the fact that the show has only been on for two seasons, The Boys has already put the best and worst of Billy Butcher on display. So with that in mind, what are Billy's worst personality traits and behaviors?

He's Rude

For the most part, Billy Butcher's absurdly foul mouth is his trademark, and it's something that most of his fans actually love him for. However, sometimes it's a bit too much.

His vulgarity is so full tilt and so constant that it can ruin moments that need to take on a different tone, and his commitment to cursing makes him seem like he's a kid who just discovered what swears are.

He's Self-Absorbed

Karl Urban as Butcher in The Boys

It's interesting, because while at the start Billy seemed to display some genuine care and concern for people like the Boys or the wife that he believed he lost, over time it actually seems like he has a very self-centered view of the world.

He seems to disregard the Boys whenever they aren't in line with his end goal, and when Becca came back he seemed to care a lot more about having her no matter what rather than looking out for what she wanted.

He's Dishonest

Billy talking with Hughie

While Billy does typically come clean to Hughie, the rest of the Boys, or Becca eventually, he does also have a bad habit of lying to them or withholding the truth for his own convenience.

Given that they're all in life-or-death situations almost constantly, it's actually very dangerous that he misleads his friends and family so often. It also shows a significant lack of respect for nearly everyone around him.

He's Prejudiced Against Supes

Again, this flaw in Billy's personality obviously exists for a reason, but it's really unfair that he paints all supes with the worst brush. Homelander is a monster who needs to be stopped, but supes are just regular people with superpowers, they're only as good or evil as they choose to be.

The fact that Butcher has magnified his vendetta against Homelander to a grudge with all superheroes isn't just unfair, it can be dangerous.

He's Excessively Violent

Billy Butcher

A high tolerance for violence is practically a necessity in Billy's line of work, but it does seem like he goes overboard on occasion, and it also seems like extreme violence has almost no personal effect on him, which can be a little scary.

Billy was never a softie even before he believed destroying anyone who got in his way, and it's unsettling that he's so casually cruel.

He's Dangerously Obsessive

Becca Butcher in The Boys

In a similar vein, aside from the fact that Billy is willing to get as violent as he thinks he needs to in order to get what he wants, he has also proven himself to be willing to do pretty much anything in general to get what he wants.

Becca was the object of his obsession for a very long time, and even she was frightened to see the lengths that Billy would go to in order to accomplish his goals.

He's A Bad Friend

Karl Urban as Butcher and Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk in The Boys

For the most part, the Boys are true blue ride or dies for each other. However, when it comes to going rogue and working on a solo mission, Billy seems to be the only one who consistently leaves his friends behind.

He does eventually come back, but to be honest, the Boys deserve better, and Billy should really treat them more like the solid team that they are instead of using them at his own convenience.

He's A Bad Husband

Season 2 of The Boys really put Billy's desire to avenge his wife in a completely new light. Yes, he truly loves Becca, but he wasn't very good at showing it or treating her how she should have been treated.

He didn't have a lot of respect for her wishes, and he was very ready and willing to ditch Ryan even though it would have crushed Becca, so he showed himself to be an incredibly selfish husband.

He's Ruthless

Billy Butcher

Every Billy Butcher's ability to go up against government agencies, massive international corporations, and literal superhumans despite the fact that he's just a regular guy is impressive.

However, he has to make up for his relative weakness in other ways, and that often presents itself with Billy being utterly ruthless when it comes to accomplishing his goals. He'll do what he needs to do, no matter who it hurts.

He Uses People

The Boys breaking into Sage Grove Center

There is clearly a big part of Billy that is a caring individual. After all, he'll literally upend his entire life just to get some kind of justice for Becca.

But Billy doesn't seem to handle his emotions well, and he can be incredibly cruel towards those who care about him. Even his friends seem to sometimes be nothing more than a means to an end for him.
