It’s official, season four of The Bold Type is coming and soon enough.
In a recent trailer released by Freeform, we see a glimpse into the season. All the changes coming to Scarlet as well as the aftermath of drama from last season. After last season, audiences were left with countless questions regarding the future of our three favorite Scarlet employees, the magazine itself, and the people in their lives. By the time the fourth season wraps, hopefully, audiences will have some answers to the following questions.
What’s Next For Kat After The Election?
One of the main plot points for season three was that Kat was running to be a city councilwoman. After such a close loss, we see her return to work at Scarlet. But the audience knows that Kat has the drive to make a change and make people feel as though they are represented. In this season’s trailer, we see her use her platform to highlight diversity and represent different groups through the magazine. Hopefully, we'll see this ion and push for change throughout the season and the rest of the series.
Will Richard Move Away?
Last season, a lot of the focus was on Sutton and what she wanted to accomplish in her career, but toward the end of the season we find out that Richard was offered a position at a start-up with one of his lifelong friends. He inevitably turns it down because his life and his love are in New York. Thankfully, Sutton won’t allow him to give up an opportunity to at least have a trial run at his dream.
But audiences never got clarity whether he decided to take the job or not. Will he take the job and do long-distance with Sutton? Or will he turn it down and always wonder?
What Is Happening With Jane's Preventative Treatment?
In season one we find out that Jane lost her mom to breast cancer at a young age, and that she carries the BRCA gene mutation that raises ger chances of developing breast cancer. Due to this, Jane decided to freeze her eggs just in case.
As the fourth season approaches, audiences are left to wonder what’s next for Jane’s treatment? What other measures will she take to prevent the possibility of developing breast cancer? Will she get any type of mastectomy? This ongoing battle has been a constant in Jane’s life, so we hope to see more of her treatment in the season and those that follow.
What Will Jacqueline Do After Scarlet?
After 10 years as editor in chief, Jacqueline‘s time at Scarlet has come to an end. She lost her job for producing something she believes in instead of selling out at the price of readers. With her leadership and ion, audiences are left wondering what’s next for Jacqueline.
Will she work with another magazine? Will she be an advocate for women’s rights? In the season four trailer, we see Jacqueline talk to Jane about how even though she doesn’t work for Scarlet anymore she can still make a difference. But what we’re excited to find out is how she will do that.
Will Jane And Ryan "Pinstripe" Ever Be The Same Again?
From season one we’ve seen Jane and Pinstripe's relationship grow from friends with benefits to a loving long-term relationship. Unfortunately, last season we saw them grow apart while he was away on his book tour, but things reached a boiling point when he told Jane that he had kissed someone else. This took Jane by surprise and she had to figure out what she wanted. In the end, they stayed together but in the trailer, we see Jane struggle to move past his mistake and possibly even the playing field. Hopefully, things will work out for the best but it looks like we’ll have to wait for new episodes to see what happens next.
What Is The Plan For Sutton's Career?
In the past few seasons, we’ve seen Sutton go from a low-level assistant to the fashion department assistant to a future designer then back to just the fashion department assistant. It’s safe to say that she is trying to figure out what she wants to do. After dabbling in fashion design she realizes that she is where she wants to be, collaborating and working to make amazing shoots and spreads happen. In the season's trailer, we see Jane and Kat convincing her to make herself a brand by becoming a fashion influencer. We don’t know where this brand will take her, but we’re excited to go along for the ride.
Who Will Take Over Jacqueline's Job?
Last season we saw Patrick come in as the new head of digital. His presence completely shifted the way people acted and performed in the newsroom. His methods, attitude and overall approach to how he runs the digital site did not rub everyone the right way.
With that being said, just one shift of power changed how things were done. Who will come into Scarlet and try to fill the void left by Jacqueline Carlyle? It has to be someone confident, strong, driven and who understands Scarlet's brand and purpose as a whole. These are tough shoes to fill and we can’t wait to see who will be put in such a coveted position.
Will Kat And Adena Get Back Together?
What would a series be without the on-again-off-again couple? Kat and Adena have a love that’s not short on ion and romance, but last season they spent a lot of time apart. Leaving Kat to learn more about herself, she eventually met someone else. This didn’t last long because once Adena came back things quickly got complicated.
Eventually knowing that she would need to choose, Kat chose herself. Ending the season single, audiences are left wondering whether or not Kat and her first love will ever rekindle the romance.
What's Next For Richard And Sutton?
The show's longest-running couple has proven time and time again that their love can stand any test. After break ups, makeups, career changes, and eventually moving in together, Richard and Sutton have proven that their love is real. Even though it looks like Richard plans on going in a new direction career-wise, the one thing he knows he wants in his life is Sutton.
This season, will their relationship take the next step into marriage? How will they adjust to the new circumstances they will face that we had a glimpse of in season 3? Like everything else on this list, we don’t know, but overall we’re rooting for them.
How Will Scarlet Magazine Change?
Outside of Jane, Kat, and Sutton‘s friendship, Scarlet has been one of the biggest constants in the series. With that, so has Jacqueline Carlyle, with her as the heart of the magazine. Things are bound to change exponentially this season. But the real question is how. Will the content of writers completely change? Will the overall fashion and look at the magazine change? Or will Scarlet just not feel like Scarlet anymore? As time goes on, the staff will be forced to adjust to the changes that are put in place, but until then we’re left wondering how will they affect the future of Scarlet magazine.
