Season 1 of Young Sheldon which is currently on its third season and focuses on Jim Parson's iconic character in his childhood years.
Fans have shared a lot of laughs and seen a lot of references and iconic 'bazingas' from the show since it began but after 12 years it's easy to forget some of the original jokes and events from the show's debut. Let's take a look back at 10 iconic moments from the first season you may have forgotten about.
Leonard & Sheldon Cleaned Penny's Apartment While She Slept
In Episode 2 "The Big-Bran Hypothesis" Sheldon and Leonard drop a large package at Penny's apartment but Sheldon becomes disturbed at how messy her apartment is. To Leonard's dismay, the two return to her apartment that night to clean but Sheldon leaves a new organizational matrix for Penny proving that they were there while she slept.
Disgusted by their actions Penny demands her key back. The episode title was derived from Sheldon deciding between the low fiber Honey-Puffs and the high fiber Big-Bran cereal when Penny finds out they were in her apartment.
Sheldon Invented Luminous Fish
In Episode 4 "The Luminous Fish Effect" Sheldon is fired from work after insinuating that his boss is not a "real scientist". During his time off Sheldon must find ways to occupy his mind that doesn't involve particle physics. In the middle of the episode, Leonard returns to the apartment to find Sheldon attempting to invent fish night-lights - an idea which is soon left for another past-time.
It's not until the end of the episode that viewers find out that Sheldon's attempt was successful as we are shown a bowl of luminous fish beside Sheldon's bed. The fish are never shown again in the series.
The First Appearance Of Sheldon's Sister
Episode 15, "The Pork-Chop Indeterminacy" introduces fans to Missy (Courtney Henggeler), Sheldon's fraternal twin sister who is the opposite of Sheldon in every way possible. It does not take long for the rest of the gang to try and win her affection. Due to Raj's inability to speak to women without alcohol, Missy's arrival motivates him to partake in a drug trial to cure this. Arguments ensue between Raj, Leonard, and Howard before Penny steps in and befriends Missy.
To the gang's disagreement, Sheldon decides that none of his friends are worthy of Missy. Raj's drug trials are vaguely successful and he manages to talk to Missy for a short while before the drugs wear off and he is back to his awkward silent self.
Penny Upset Leonard
In episode 14 "The Nerdvana Annihilation", the gang decides to buy a time machine off of the internet. However, it takes Leonard, Sheldon, Raj and Howard to get it up the stairs but the machine takes up the entire stairwell when Penny has to get to work. Sheldon suggests she goes up to the roof, jumps over to the next building and uses their stairs.
However, in doing this, Penny scrapes her knee and has to climb through a window and ends up being late for her shift, losing her a day's pay. Penny responds by calling the gang pathetic which Leonard takes to heart, given his feelings for her and almost throws out or sells all of his collectibles.
Sheldon Introduces 3-Dimensional Chess
The game is first shown in Episode 11 "The Pancake Butter Anomaly". It doesn't take long for Sheldon and the gang to turn to board games when video games are out of the question. One of Sheldon's past-times includes 3D chess, a game that adds multiple layers (literally) to the original.
The game originated in Star Trek and given that this is a show the gang watch religiously, it's not surprising the game made its way into their apartment. Later in the show, Sheldon invents a new game, three-person chess.
Sheldon Bought A Loom
One of Sheldon's other activities, after he was fired from his job, was weaving on a handloom - a purchase that causes Leonard to call Sheldon's mother as he sees this as a step too far. Sheldon uses the Loom to make himself a poncho which he dawns as his mother enters the apartment.
After Sheldon works with luminous fish it makes him think "hey...loom" which is the spark of the purchase. After Sheldon's mother witnesses his weaving, she forces him to go back to his work to apologize to his boss.
Howard Risked His Life For Leonard's Birthday
Growing up Leonard's parents, who were both scientists, did not believe in celebrating anything that wasn't an academic achievement. In episode 16 "The Peanut Reaction", upon learning that Leonard has never had a birthday party, Penny decides to throw him one and tasks Howard with keeping Leonard out of the apartment long enough for her to decorate it.
Howard pretends to eat a peanut bar, to which he is deathly allergic, so Leonard has to rush him to the emergency room. However, the nurse at the hospital sees that Howard is faking and upon failing to get the nurse to play along, Howard eats a real peanut bar causing his face and hands to swell.
Leonard & Penny's First Kiss
In episode 6 'The Middle-Earth Paradigm', Penny invites the group over to her flat for a Halloween party where Leonard is confronted with Penny's large ex-boyfriend Kurt. In a previous episode, Leonard and Sheldon were tasked with retrieving Penny's TV from Kurt's flat - an endeavor that had them leaving without half their clothes.
Kurt humiliates Leonard at the party and Leonard retreats to his apartment only for a drunk Penny to stumble over and apologize. Once Leonard expresses how highly he thinks of Penny the two share their first kiss on the sofa - still managing to avoid Sheldon's spot.
Fans Met Leslie Winkle
Sheldon's arch-nemesis Leslie Winkle (Sara Gilbert) first debuted in Season 1, Episode 3, "The Fuzzy Boots Corollary". After Leonard sees Penny kissing another man, the crew convinces Leonard he should date someone from work. Leslie deems her and Leonard's first kiss unexciting so they decide not to pursue a relationship.
In episode 5 "The Hamburger Postulate" Leslie corrects an equation on Sheldon's board which sparks their life-long feud. Leslie appears in nine episodes throughout the shows run and repeatedly mocks Sheldon claiming she is smarter than him and calls him "Doctor Dumbass".
Sheldon Convinced Penny To Go Out With Leonard
One of the front-running story arcs of the show's entire run is the relationship between Leonard and Penny. With its ups and downs throughout the show, fans may have forgotten that it was Sheldon who convinced Penny to date Leonard using the 'Schroedinger's Cat' phenomenon as an example.
In the first seasons 17th and final episode "The Tangerine Factor", worried that getting involved in a relationship could ruin their friendship, Leonard and Penny go to Sheldon for help who states that much like in Schroedinger's experiment the cat can be thought of as both alive and dead until the box is opened, their date can be thought of as ending well and badly and it is only by going on the date that they will find out.
