the DCU timeline is developing its own reboot of the hero, things are taking a bit longer than expected with The Batman universe, as a sequel to the 2022 installment is still intended to happen. As filming is reportedly set to begin at the end of this year, there are still a lot of questions about what is going on with Pattinson's sequel.

In a new interview with Deadline, Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, who are the co-CEOs of Warner Bros. Pictures, were asked about the progress of The Batman 2. However, it appears that the script is still being worked on, as Abdy confirmed Reeves is still working on it, while also noting she and De Luca are "not in the weeds" on Reeves' Batman universe compared to James Gunn and Peter Safran. See what Abdy shared below:

We’re not in the weeds on the Batman stuff. It’s really James and Peter Safran who run DC. We have a bit of other collaboration with Matt Reeves, but Peter and James know he is a writer/directing auteur in his own right, and that it will come when he’s written his best Batman script and is ready.

What The WB Exec's The Batman 2 Comments Mean

The DC Sequel Is Not Getting Cancelled

Despite this update on The Batman 2 script confirming that it is still a work in progress, there are a number of key reasons why Abdy's latest comments aren't all that concerning. To begin with, if principal photography isn't meant to start until the end of 2025, there is still plenty of time for Reeves to complete the screenplay and give the cast enough time to get ready. Given the commercial success behind The Batman, there is no way Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios would choose to scrap the sequel.

The Batman Part II is still a ways away from releasing in theaters, with a current comic series being the perfect way to tide fans over until then.

Since Reeves was a major reason why The Batman universe has become such a success, which includes the franchise branching off to the small-screen with HBO's The Penguin, the studios know how valuable he is to this iteration of the Dark Knight. It's also crucial to that Gunn and Safran have made it clear that a project only moves forward if its script is ready and of good quality. Even if it takes longer for The Batman 2 script to get completed, the wait will be worth it if it means that it leads to a sequel with a far better end result.

The Sequel's Story Is At Least Known To Pattinson

Robert Pattinson's Batman looking sad in The Batman

From everything Abdy stated about the progression of The Batman 2, there really is nothing to be concerned about where the sequel is going. Even Pattinson himself has stated that he knows what The Batman 2 story is going to be, meaning that the script is definitely further along than some may give Reeves credit for, even if it's not finished yet. Hopefully, there will be exciting updates for The Batman 2 over the next few months.
