A comparison between the Texas Chain Saw Massacre reveal trailer does capture the terrifying atmosphere of the long-running film saga.
A predecessor to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Gun Media's Friday the 13th: The Game brings players to the iconic forests and cabins of Camp Crystal Lake. Up to seven players are case as camp counselors who are tasked with escaping the campground while avoiding the murderous Jason Voorhees. One lucky player actually gets to play as Jason, with the objective of killing other players using a suite of supernatural powers. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will reportedly follow a similar formula, though there will be significant differences between the two experiences. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has three killers, for example, with gamers controlling Leatherface and two of his family .
A Texas Chain Saw Massacre promotional video, posted to YouTube by IGN, demonstrates how accurately the game reflects its 1974 horror inspiration. The game strives to flawlessly recreate shots from the film, and it manages to do so with breathtaking accuracy. While the comparison mostly serves to showcase the love and care put into the multiplayer survival horror game, it also teases environments that players will be visiting in-game. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will obviously include the Slaughter family's farm and house, but players will also journey to the iconic gas station visited by the original film's hapless protagonists.
In order to create an authentic version of the iconic killer, Gun Media's Texas Chain Saw Massacre will feature Kane Hodder in the role of Leatherface. The actor and stuntman is most well-known for portraying Jason Voorhees in the later Friday the 13th films, but he also did Leatherface's stunts in several Texas Chainsaw Massacre films. Gun Media brought Hodder back to portray Jason in Friday the 13: The Game, which helped to capture the classic killer's mannerisms, and now the powerful performer will become Leatherface in the developer's next asymmetric survival horror experience.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre appears to painstakingly recreate the look and feel of the original 1974 slasher flick. The game brings back Kane Hodder as Leatherface, lending authenticity to the project, and its environments are so faithful that certain angles could be mistaken for shots from the movie. Just like Friday the 13th: The Game, the Texas Chain Saw Massacre game looks like a love letter to both asymmetric multiplayer fans and horror film devotees.
