Elon Musk's eccentric tendencies, Tesla's pursuit of an industry outside of its usual wheelhouse is seemingly par for the course. Then again, Tesla might have its own reasons for pursuing an expansion into the restaurant business.

Over the years, Tesla has thrived within the electric vehicle industry and grown to become one of the most popular brands in the process. Besides developing electric cars, the company is also busy working on automated driving technology in pursuit of a full self-driving car in the future. While Tesla hasn't strayed too far from the electric and solar industries, Musk has pursued a number of other projects including selling an actual flamethrower and working on a mission to Mars.

Filed at the different products and markets, it raises the question as to why Tesla is even interested in a restaurant-related trademark.

It's not difficult to speculate on why an automotive company like Tesla might be pursuing food. Besides creating vehicles, Tesla also builds public charging stations for Tesla drivers to charge their cars. Food and fueling stations have always complemented each other in the past, whether it's a cheap gas station snack or an all-out diner beside the pumps. Tesla could, in fact, be building something similar.

Then again, why build something new, instead of hiring someone else? As with most of the companies' plans that Musk is involved in, a recent takes more time than just a normal pump, it leaves enough time to either grab a bite or even catch a movie.
