The new TV spots for doesn't involve actual time-travel, though it does explore the concept of time "bending," as the BTS book puts it.
Recently, the discussion around Tenet has focused less on its potential plot and more on its ability to hit its July 17 release date, despite most of the world being on lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Things remain hazy on that front and Warner Bros. is reported to be weighing its decision on a day-by-day basis. In the meantime, the studio is getting the film's marketing up and running again.
A pair of new TV spots for Tenet are now online and confirm the latest trailer will arrive sometime today. You can check them out below (via Trailer-Track).
Memento. It could also be a reflection of the idea of reversing time, which is what the second Tenet TV spot explores. In the wrong hands, the ability to manipulate time the way Washington's character does here could be catastrophic, which helps to establish just what's at stake in the movie without any further details to go off of.
The other major takeaway here is neither of these TV spots includes an official release date; they simply say Tenet is "Coming to theaters" (including, Nolan's preferred format of IMAX). This could mean WB is playing things safe for now and waiting to see what happens over the next few weeks before it firmly commits to releasing Tenet in July. Alternatively, no new films opening in theaters until December, so it'll be interesting to see what actually happens in that event. Hopefully, then, the second trailer will shed more light on exactly what WB has in mind, even as it continues to build hype for Nolan's latest mind-bending sci-fi epic.
