PEOPLE reveals that Tom Ellis will return for Tell Me Lies season 3. The former Lucifer lead, who played Oliver in season 2, confirmed the news at the recent CBS Fest event. Ellis is gearing up to play the lead in the CIA series for CBS, but he noted that he will have a presence in season 2. In the quote below, the actor mentions that he'll begin filming very soon and teases that viewers may see a different side of Oliver:
“Yes, I’m going back. I’m actually going there on Saturday to start shooting. It is as dark, toxic, and funny as ever. And just when you thought our characters couldn’t do anything more ridiculous to themselves, they ended up doing it.”
“[He’ll have] a lot of redeeming moments. I’ve got to be honest, the focus isn’t so much on my character this season, but it still plays very much into the Bree storyline.”

Bree & Evan Are In Trouble In Both Timelines
The ending of Tell Me Lies season 2 drives just how calculating Stephen is. The romantic drama is split between two timelines, 2008 and then, years later, in 2015, when most of the main characters reunite for the wedding of Evan (Cook) and Bree (Missal). Stephen waits until the big day to reveal to Bree that Evan, one of his best friends, had a one-night stand with Lucy. The finale ends with Bree just hearing the news, via a voice recording, with an oblivious Lucy standing behind her.
Showrunner and creator Meaghan Oppenheimer, who is married to Ellis, previously mentioned that the actor was unlikely to return in season 3.
Things are not better for Evan and Bree in the 2008 timeline. The finale reveals that Oliver, who has a fraught open marriage with Marianne (Gabriella Pession), is the professor in one of Evan's classes. Oliver, of course, had a brief fling with Bree that ended badly when she learned about the open marriage arrangement. Evan and Bree broke up in the 2008 timeline, though they remain friendly enough. It could be the case that Oliver's presence brings them back together, though Evan doesn't know about Bree and Oliver's relationship.

It Couldn't Be More Exciting
The adaptation saw a significant increase in interest in its second season, making the streaming charts and generating waves of discussion online. It is at least partly because viewers can't wait to see the characters make bad decisions, combined with sharp writing and compelling characterization. But perhaps, based on Ellis' tease, his loathsome profession will find a bit of redemption in Tell Me Lies season 3.
