The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's launch date may still be a month away, but the game's new fuse ability could already be game-breaking in particular circumstances. Revealed in TOTK's most recent gameplay trailer, the fuse ability will allow Link to fuse objects with his weapons and shields. Any number of items could make the fuse ability killer in combat, but one specific fusion may be so strong it's a borderline cheat code.
The speed runners and combat experts of Breath of the Wild are certainly already theorizing about how to best use Link's new fusion ability in Tears of the Kingdom. The Zelda team has designed this new mechanic to allow for a lot of creativity. Players can fuse weapons with other weapons to increase their range, eyeballs with arrows so that projectiles can hone in on enemies, or even living plants and fungi to shields for a variety of effects. Players are bound to find many more combinations once TOTK launches, fusing explosive barrels with spears to make boom sticks or meat with arrows for weaponized kebabs.
Cuccos Would Be Broken With Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Fusion Ability
That Link can fuse living organisms with his shields and weapons like the mushrooms in the Tears of the Kingdom the attacking Cucco of Zelda. The Cucco may just be Hylian version of a chicken, but when provoked, an entire flock of them will peck any perceived threat to death. What could potentially make Cuccos devastating in TOTK, then, is that if they can be fused with Link's items, he could send an army of Cuccos at whoever attacks him.
How Link Could Fuse Cuccos To Destroy Enemies In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom
If Link is able to fuse Cuccos with his weaponry in Tears of the Kingdom, players could rely on a specific strategy to cheat their way through the game. All they would have to do is carry a Cucco into battle, fuse the cucco with their shield, and then hold that shield up until an enemy attacks. This would then trigger the ominous Cucco cutscene from Breath of the Wild (courtesy of Andruidus) followed by the Cucco Revenge Squad wreaking havoc on Link's enemies.
Since Cuccos only target the enemy who first struck them, fused Cuccos would likely only be effective in boss fights where there is one enemy (or at least a primary target). Even so, a Cucco fused with a shield would make challenging bosses cakewalks with their relentless attacks. Hopefully Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will include the Cucco-shield combination in its long list of fusion possibilities.
