the game’s 5th, dubbed Reckoning, which was launched last April. Riot Games also releases mid-Set updates for Teamfight Tactics that are much smaller and usually provide adjustments to the game’s mechanics, roster of units, and more.
The auto battler genre, which Teamfight Tactics is part of, seemingly exploded out of nowhere back in 2019. Popularized by the announced an Auto Chess MOBA based on the characters that were created for the standalone version of the game earlier this year.
Riot Games posted its latest Teamfight Tactics Dev Drop video, which includes details on the game’s 6th Set. According to the video, the new Set will feature a Hextech theme and introduce a new mechanic called Hextech Augments. The new mechanic will offer players special enhancements they can utilize that could change the course of a match. Some of these Augments include champion buffs, more gold, shop rerolls, level boosts, and more. The 6th Set will also see the addition of Chibi Champions, cute skins for the game’s units, as well as the game’s own currency called TFT Coins.

Finally, the Set will also introduce a new Lab mode that will pair players together to create a match of four teams rather than an 8-player free-for-all. In the new co-op mode, players will still retain their own board but will have a shared health pool, and teammates can assist each other with the Assist Armory. The new Lab will be available soon after Set 6 launches in November, but Riot Games plans to eventually take the mode offline to adjust it based on player and relaunch it later on.
While the new developer video didn’t announce which new League of Legends champions will be introduced in Set 6, it did tease some of the characters that may be available to fit the new Set's theme. These include Heimerdinger, Graves, Blitzcrank, Orianna, Dr. Mundo, Tristana, and more. The gameplay clips that were shown in the video also teased a few other champions that players may have access to in Set 6.
While the auto battler genre is no longer in the forefront of the most talked about or popular video game genres, titles such as Teamfight Tactics continue to be successful. This is significantly helped by the release of new Sets. During the lifetime of the game’s 4th Set, an average of over 10 million people played the game on a daily basis. And with the introduction of new Lab modes and events unique to Teamfight Tactics, its fans will likely keep playing.
Teamfight Tactics is currently available on PC, Android, and iOS.
