Riot Games has announced that Teamfight Tactics is reportedly receiving its first unit that is not a champion in League, the crime boss Silco, from Riot's Netflix show Arcane.

Double Up is a game mode that allowed players to queue up for TFT games as a pair and work together to win. Players can send items and units to their partners as well as coming to their aid with reinforcements if they finish their own fight early. These changes make for a unique twist to the free-for-all gameplay of TFT. The game mode has been in beta on the client since patch 11.23 in early November.

Today, permanent game mode for Teamfight Tactics. The announcement goes on to say that the developers had originally expected to take the game off the servers for a while to work on fixing it up for its ultimate release. However, the game mode was so much more successful than they anticipated that they decided it no longer made sense to remove the game mode from the client for several patches. Luckily, Riot had considered that possibility and was prepared for it, for all that it was not the outcome they expected.

Riot's announcement details a plan for  TFT Double Up going forward. The game mode is not entirely complete yet, and Riot still wants to make some adjustments to it before sealing the deal. Because the game is doing so well however, they intend to take their time preparing on the final 10 percent of the game and implementing changes slowly to keep the live game stable. Some of the intended changes which Riot detailed are quite interesting, including a ranked system designed specifically for Double Up as well as a special system of communication for partners not using in-game voice chat to communicate.

This announcement is good news for Double-Up players, but is also a good sign for all players of games developed by Riot. Although the company sometimes receives a lot of flack from the community, this update as well as their recent removal of the Chemtech Drake from League of Legends shows that they are listening to what players want and are at the very least trying to make changes accordingly. Although it might be a while before Double Up is a fully developed and complete game mode for Teamfight Tactics, it is exciting to know what is in store for it in the future, and an added benefit that it will remain available to play in the meanwhile.
