Andrew Garfield has always been one of my favorite actors, and this movie just solidified it for me. He's so captivating as Jonathan Larson and it's crazy to think that he learned to sing specifically for this film. I'm not a particularly huge fan of Lin Manuel Miranda; I've never seen Hamilton or In the Heights. However, this film really makes me think that he should direct more projects because he nailed the tone. There are some genuinely heart-wrenching moments, but the comedy hits just as hard too.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie! With a lot of unnecessary musical adaptations out there recently (e.g. Into the Woods), it would have been easy to do a poor adaptation of this. This one, however, really uses the power of film editing from the get go in order to create a compelling film version. I don't love this version of Come to Your Senses as compared with the stellar Broadway version, though.
