I read Tolkiens books about 1967 or 68 and to watch the movies was even more mind blowing. At 71 I still love them
As strong as a conclusion that you could ask for, The Return of the King is the weakest of a pretty strong trilogy, diving straight into the action and acting mostly as payoff for the prior films. As such, you may not see the same level of character work Fellowship and Two Towers offered, but it is still an fulfilling ending.
Easily the weakest of the trilogy, Return of the King doesn't completely fumble the ball, especially in its closing scenes depicting the heroes' return to their lives and the consequences of fighting in a world-defining war.
One of the 3 best movies of all time.

The Return of the King delivers what it promises: an epic conclusion to The Lord of the Rings Saga which is hands-down one of the greatest movies of the 21st century.
